I like comparing some sort of bizzarro alternate universe MWC to the PAC. Those are the awesome kinds of comparisons non-senile individuals make!

I have a hard time getting emotional about something Norm says. I got over that after BYU's first post-Norm game. BYU scored 3 against FSU. Norm was asked how he thought his offense would do. His comment was that they would be better than the ugly showing the night before.

(Lost on Norm was the irony of the fact that this BYU team only managed 3 against FSU with a new QB at the start of the season...while his most recent game was a BYU offense that only managed 3 against Marshall at the end of the season with an experience QB.)

OK - so maybe some small part of me still wants to choke the bitterness out of the man.

But back to the topic at hand...

I'm not outraged at Norm. My response is twofold.

1 - that is a lot of pressure to put on a player who hasn't done much yet. Detmer won games nearly singlehandedly at times. But feel free to put the entire game into Wynn's hands if you think he is the same player.

2 - and this is my most frequent response - I find myself chuckling and thinking "OK - I don't see it, but OK". It is a similar response to when my 3 year-old nephew was angry at his mother for not giving him his way and responded with "You just wait till daddy get's home!"

I'm not outraged at my nephew. I think it's a grand combination of cute and humorous. But outrage? I don't think so.


FWIW - I'm not outraged that BoylenOver was making some comment about Wynn passing Detmer's passing totals either. I may think he's delusional. It may generate the same cute/humorous response my nephew did. But I'm not outraged.

Maybe the word you were looking for was astonished. Or disbelief. The shocked look in the eyes and the dropped jaw can make this look like outrage sometimes. But they are different.

Also - three of the paragraphs (including two of the longest) are actually referring to comments regarding BYU. Why wouldn't I talk about my favorite football team?

I was once taught that a paragraph should have at least 3 sentences in it. So if that's true, it's further evidence that I was just tweaking you. Which I fully admit.

You laugh, but a MWC with the following teams:

TCU
BYU
Utah
Boise St
San Diego St
Air Force

would be a better current football conference than the PAC-12(10) w/o accounting for prestige/fanbase. Not to mention the MWC being a better basketball conference in recent history.

Utah's home schedule excludes the 3 best and most prestigious PAC-12 teams, and it's still 3x better than last year's schedule.

If you look at the early rankings, there are only three Pac-12 teams in the top 25. That was true last year as well, but - at season's end, the truly objective analysts (like Sagarin) rated it the best conference in the country. Ahead of the SEC by a respectable margin. And way ahead of everyone else. There are no easy outs except for, possibly,
Washington State and Colorado on the road. Even those teams are tough at home.

I see 3 consensus all-americans, 0 national championships, and a 30,000 seat stadium.

And the last arrogance-o-meter check I did had BYU between a middle-tier SEC team and Nebraska, so not quite to Notre Dame's level.

Probably a good thing you don't have that pic anymore. Way too many errors.

Secretariat. Hands down. I'm a horse racing fan and loved to watch him run. Those animals are spectacular -- just the strength and power.

I'm not at all surprised that Chow compared Wynn to Detmer. No BYU or Utah Fan that follows the history of this relationship should be.
