Just watched some of Furious Monkey's highlights from last year...damn I'm amped about this season. And I pretty much wanted to cry knowing I'd never see Andrew Rich in a Cougar jersey again.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Thanks for linking that. Like water to a thirsty man.

That little post was better than any write up I've seen for this spring camp.

            Ugh...

Nice to see that Bronco is ecstatic about all the wonderful things happening as a result of Brandon Davies being thrown under the bus. Jerk.

I didn't get Bronco being ecstatic about it. Heck, this is all paraphrased anyways.

Were you being sarcastic or did you really read it that way?

Pretty much. I also thought I heard RFK (I thought it was odd that he said RFK because it is now FedEx field, which is why I remembered it) as one of the sites that they've had offers to play those teams. Bronco didn't say it, but it was alluded that the biggest issue with these types of games is they are a one-shot deal usually, and don't allow for return trips to Provo. It helps the scheduling, but it becomes tough to get teams to come play here.

Make no mistake, Bronco didn't say it, but it was clear between the lines, ESPN loves BYU for the product they offer, but they REALLY love the fact that BYU can and is willing to play teams (and travel well) in the one-off type games at uniqe stadiums. These games allow ESPN access to teams that may not traditionally play on ESPN, like a Notre Dame, or like the BYU/TCU match up this year.

Also, the seven "intriguing" matchups, Bronco actually articulated those as unqie rivalry games. He mentioned specifically Utah, Utah State, Hawaii, Notre Dame, Boston College, and the service academies (including Air Force).

I can see how you would take it that way from the comments, but hearing Bronco's tone, I don't think that was the point he was trying to get across.

Also, one other piece, Bronco did state that besides Doman, DuPaix was the best recruiter on the staff. Not DuPaix being the best. FWIW.

I think one of those big neutral site games a year would be fun. BUT if we never get good deals with the big boys at home, then I really hate our scheduling.

Well, this is a second hand account, so we shouldn't get too carried away, but here is the summary:

                              - Talked about the honor code. Said BYU and the church got a lot of positive press with the Davies situation. Said the #1 priority of the football program is the missionary aspect, but winning is directly related. Had BYU been a .500 team when Davies got suspended, nobody would've taken notice. But because BYU was ranked 3rd, the entire nation took notice, and the sports world turned to discussing the word of wisdom, LDS beliefs regarding premarital sex, etc. BYU needs to win in order to succeed in their overall mission.
I realize that this is a horse we have beaten to death, but it will always bug me to hear people talk about this as a shining moment for BYU. It wasn't. Yes, we stuck to our principles. Bravo for that. But the manner in which those principles are enforced stinks.

Listening to Bronco, I'm not sure if it was spin because that is where they're at right now and there isn't any other way to spin it, or if he really is excited about it, but it seems like he is a big fan of Independence. He likes the scheduling flexibility and assuming some of the schools mentioned above were to commit to playing BYU every year, I wouldn't be surprised if we stick it out as independents.
