OC is slow to absorb some complicated social norms - i.e. the "thou shalt not curb-stomp your neighbor for things you don't know he did" rule. He also occasionally overlooks some basic technical norms like "hold on to the damn ball."
But I haven't seen any evidence that he's slow to absorb the schematic or strategic. Have you?Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

Has any other source confirmed this? It seems like most were fairly certain that Rowley was gone, and it had seemed of late that Tuiloma was going to be gone as well.Originally posted by oxcoug View Post"Finally, here's a list of players from the 2010 roster who are planning on serving LDS missions. The names you don't recognize are walk-ons: Jordan Black (OL), Algernon Brown (RB), Chris Copier (TE), Cole Jones (OL), Dallin McEwen (QB), AJ Moore (RB) and Luke Nelson (WR)."

I picked up a little more last night - looks pretty clear that Tuiloma is staying, which is obviously great for the interior DL depth. Haven't heard anything definitive on Rowley though.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

You must not remember his freshman year. He was notoriously slow learning the playbook. He and the coaches talked about it all the time.Originally posted by oxcoug View PostBut I haven't seen any evidence that he's slow to absorb the schematic or strategic. Have you?
And Stout didn't make that list. I was still under the impression he might go. Are we assuming that Kaveinga starts? Would Stout be likely to pass Ogletree on the depth chart?

I do recall some talk of that sort - but I guess I don't know how notorious or slow he could have been given that he had learned the playbook well enough that by the time he was a 19 year old sophomore that he was (a) starting and (b) finished the season second on the team in receptions, behind only Dennis Pitta.
If he was really that unusually slow as a frosh then he made up a lot of ground by the time he was a soph.
BTW, Stout definitely isn't going so he'll be here -
My view is that he and Ogletree will do battle for that one inside spot. Ogletree's edge is experience, leadership and the borderline-criminal intent to harm his opponents. Stout is definitely the better athlete though and I could see him catching him. Either way, I'm sure both will see a lot of PT. And based on what I've heard, Kav is nearly a given as a starter, barring anything unforeseen.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

I'm really pleased to see the position changes. Two TEs move, one to DE and one to WR. One LB moves to RB. A WR that was recruited by the big boys at safety becomes a safety and has to redshirt a year anyway. Allocation of resources is the key to good football and I think we are seeing that.
I'm really excited about our linebackers. I think it is possible we might have enough talent to run two deep without drop-off throughout the front 7. I think that is a key to a very good defense because it allows you to play like your hair is on fire knowing that you have a guy behind you who can come in and give you some rest and that you will go back in when he is gassed.

Amen to all of that. I'm really happy about the Alisa move - I know some aren't - because I was starting to feel like we were going to suffocate some talent with that stockpile at LB.
With Tuiloma staying and positive word so far on both Fuga and Richardson's recovery we're looking at this kind of line (not accounting for any of the new signees as I don't think they'll play):
NT: Fangupo, Tuiloma, Fuga
NT/DE: Manumaleuna, Richardson, Rowley* (mission plans not clear)
DE: Bryson, Dulan, Putnam, Ansah, Muehlmann
Even if Fuga and Richardson need to be brought along slowly and Rowley does go on a mish it looks something like:
DE - Manu, Dulan, Muehlmann
NT - Fangupo, Tuiloma
DE - Bryson, Putnam, AnsahUte-ī sunt fīmī differtī

Also not insignificant - I'd forgotten Jadon Wagner. He'd been offered a 6-figure plus deal to go play in Canada so I didn't know if he'd be back, but I think that he factors at DE.Originally posted by oxcoug View PostAmen to all of that. He's bounced bt DE and OLB in his career but I think next year he could be a kind of Vic So'oto story - a long BYU career that culminates with a solid senior campaign where he adds toughness and stability on a young team.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī
