Looks like Wilson has no intention of playing anything other than TE.
“Yes, I will definitely be a tight end the rest of my career,” he said Tuesday. “I got moved to linebacker for depth reasons, and it ended up not working out. I feel more comfortable in the offense. I feel like that’s where I can help the team the most, because I understand the offensive mentality better. I would rather score touchdowns than get sacks.”
Wilson is having a phenomenal preseason camp, pushing fellow sophomores Devin Mahina and Austin Holt for playing time. He’s every bit the pass-catcher, but isn’t as big and physical as the two guys ahead of him on the depth chart and is not perceived to be a good blocker.
When do they move Mahina? It seems with Holt, Wilson and Matthews you're pretty set at TE, each giving you a different look.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.Comment

I was surprised when they didn't move Mahina to DE prior to last season, although it was widely known Anae had a huge Mahina chubby. Given the talent they signed at TE in those successive recruiting classes, Mahina at DE seemed like a given. He started showing some decent productivity toward the end of last year though. If Holt is becoming the go to every down player, back him up with Friel and play Wilson as the additional receiving/H-Back TE. Mahina, unlike Friel, has a redshirt year. Terence Brown might be the biggest player on the team at 6-foot-4, 318-pounds, while his brother Rhen may be one of the smallest.
"It's funny, but every year players come in and don't find out that we're brothers until about six months later," said Rhen. "When they find out, they still don't really believe us. I really don't know why we're so different physically, but we're close and we're happy here at BYU playing with each other."

Mahina was class of 2007. He went on his mission in the late fall of 2007 and returned home in the late fall of 2009. He was enrolled in BYU in January, 2010 and his elgibility started as a true freshman last year. I don't know what he did for the few months between HS graduation and going on his mission in Oct/Nov 2007.
