  • I could see Juice beating out JJ, and at a minimum they at least share reps evenly. Look at the end of this season, where they were basically already doing that. From the Wyoming game on, Juice got 12.67 carries per game, and JJ got 13.67 (including 20 the bowl game, which was far more than he'd been averaging before that -- from Wyoming up until the bowl, Juice was getting more reps per game).
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Very true. Hines is a freak, at least he showed it in High School. I think the kid high jumped over 7 feet his senior year.

I really think Reynolds stays at BYU for next year.

I recall when he broke the 7 foot wall I was shocked and said over on CB that it was the primary indication that he would be an impact guy for us. That kind of explosiveness is unusual at BYU ... especially at the rb spot.

This is what I would prefer as well.

            • So what's up with David Foote? Could he be used elsewhere? I don't know if it's just because he's also playing garbage time against the scrubs, but I'm always impressed with that guy's speed and physicality. Have they thought about moving him to safety or anything? Given the way he loves to hit people when he runs, seems like he'd be a natural at that spot and I don't see any RB minutes in his future given our depth there.

Why can Hine not have his last name be Gine? A Gine and Juice backfield would be as good as it gets at the Y.

So I've raised this question elsewhere and obviously plenty of people disagree with me but....

I haven't been that impressed by the footage I've seen of Hine as a RUNNING back. Crazy athlete and that's great and we'll probably see him vault into the end zone for some spectacular scores, but when it comes to running the football in the narrow spaces and between tackles and doing the stuff that top running backs do he looks to me like

                    1. He's fast but not that fast - JJ fast, not Drew fast. Fast enough that he was able to get the corner regularly in high school but not fast enough that he will in college.

                    2. He runs a bit stiff and high, which doesn't bode well for moving between the tackles

                    3. He doesn't look like he's got the greatest lateral quickness

I know that high school footage isn't always representative so I'm open to being trumped by the people who have seen him play, etc. But those are my impressions. Based on what I've seen of him he looks like he might be a better fit at WR or Safety than at RB.

                    • My 2 cents.

Guys I want to play other positions that can make a difference -

I want Mike Hague and David Foote on the football field because these guys are ballers. I hear everyone talking about Riley Nelson moving to Safety. Move both Mike and David there and see what they can do.

Mike was all state at that position. I can see him being great at Fullback too but that guy can bring it and isn't afraid to get physical. For whatever reason, at BYU we feel the need to keep a guy at the position we recruited him in. At this point, I think both those guys could fill a big need at the Strong Safety position and they are athletic enough to do it.

We should also think about moving the TEs too as we have way too many. I would send Muehlman and Friel to Defense and then go with Holt, Mahina, and Wilson as the TEs. I would also move Mathews back to WR.

                      • Did you guys not watch David Foote try to get the edge on Saturday? He got strung out time and time again and looked awful. He has one nice run in his career against the 3rd stringers on a teams whose first stringers would not start on most JC teams.

Yeah but Hans Olsen told me to watch out for this kid after fall camp. That was when I once again realized that I should never listen to Hans Olsen.

I am not saying he should play running back but in my opinion, he looks like he can play so I would hope that maybe the coaches put him at a different position where he can make an impact as we all know it will not be at running back.

                            • Foote is averaging over 6 yards a carry and 18 yards a reception.

Hans Olsen can now join the guys over on TBS with hyping up players that will never do shit in a BYU uniform.

David Foote has great company in Landon Jaussi, BJ Peterson, and Carter Mees.
