As UD said, you definitely don't owe anything to anyone and are justifiably reacting to some admittedly stupid, but hardly unpredictable behavior by Cougar fans (including myself). What sucks is that you are hands down the authority on the technical aspects of football on the site, and your opinion is well respected all around. Just my two cents.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

I can't really complain much about the game. Controversy, late-game comeback, game comes down to the last play. Awesome.
As for the arguments over fan behavior...I think fans on both sides need to nut up. I've never been to Yankee Stadium, but based on the abuse I take in Arlington when I watch the Rangers-Sox every year, and the crap I had to take at U.S. Cellular in Chicago when I was a law student, I imagine that watching Yanks-Sox in YS would be wild.
I don't like some of the reports that Ute fans were being vulgar in front of kids, but unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast.
Even though we lost, I am crazy excited for next year's game. The last decade of Utes-Cougs has been amazing, and I hope it continues for years to come.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Well that old adage is true, no good deed goes unpunished. Not only have I incurred the wrath of one of my favorite Ute Fans, but YO has labeled my work "mildly funny."Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostIs there a fanbase that is more self righteous than BYU's? Sorry to come across like such a jerk or as some of you would say "typical ute fan" but I am amazed at all the Ute bashing since yesterday. It is getting old. There are good fans on both sides and then there are total asshats on BOTH SIDES. Some BYU fans here think pretty highly of themselves right now.
At least I can take solace in knowing that SU appreciates what I'm trying to do here.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

i was at the game and then spent 15 hours in the snow driving back to northern california. looks like my fellow utes have covered the game very well.
i was there. my blood pressure was at an all-time high during much of the game.
after the ute walk, we walked down to the pie. there was a great byu fan there who had a max hall autographed t-shirt on. i love the banter between true ute and true byu fans - not the extreme versions of each. it was a great atmosphere for the most part, and the game was exciting.
looks like we can expect great things from next year's version of the cougar offense, assuming jake is back. he played a great game. jordan wynn needs to learn how to play consistently an entire game.
lots of turnovers this year for the utes - hope they get that straightened out. during the ute walk, schram and shakey both gave me a wink - like they knew my being there was good luck.
i'm going to miss shakey smithson and many of these seniors - great group of guys.
oh, and the face-off at the beginning will just embarass us in the pac12... let's lose that fellas.
other than that, it was a great thrilling game, which seems to be what we are going to get pretty much every single year. i'm glad that the rivalry is continuing... utes and cougs play exciting football against each other.
i'm excited for the bowl games and to then see how the pac12 and independence fit our respective teams.

So hopefully this will be my last post about the game. I let my emotions get the best of me earlier. I want to apologize to myboynoah, my wrath shouldn't have been in response to his post.
My overall thoughts on the game.
From the Utah side.
I thought that the defense came to play and they played good enough to win the game. Because of the Utah offense (I will get to them in a minute) they were put in some difficult situations and held BYU to 3 points many times after BYU was given a short field. I believe that Utah's d-line played well, they stopped the run and put pressure some decent pressure on Heaps when they decided to bring more than 3 guys. I love watching Siliga play. The secondary was very good as well. Burton played a great game and Blechen is going to be a stud even though he makes some freshman mistakes. I won't miss Taplin Ross. Utah needs to find a FS that can play centerfield like RoJo did. Here is hoping that Payne or someone else can be that guy. The linebackers continue to leave me wishing that. The played o.k. yesterday but that was because the d line IMO played really well. That is a position that really needs to be upgraded by next year or Utah will be in huge trouble.
The Utah offense was awful. Both play calling and mainly execution by the q.b. I guess when you say the O was awful most of it falls on the play of Wynn. Utah wanted to throw the ball yesterday and Wynn was flat our horrible. He can't step up in the pocket to save his life. He continues to hold the ball too long, he rolls out into pressure instead of stepping up and making a read and hitting the open receiver. He has really regressed this year and he was just bad yesterday. They have a serious q.b. situation on their hands and it doesn't look good for Utah right now. Wynn did all he could to lose the game. He made one good throw to the wide open tight end to set up a td. Other than that he was just bad. His only TD came from and incredible play by Devonte.
The BYU side
I will start with Heaps. The kid is the real deal. He handled the pressure of that game incredibly well. I still believe that Utah has a really good defense and he found ways to put points on the board. Heaps showed me Saturday that when he finished his freshman season he is better than Max Hall was at the end of Max's senior year. He just didn't have the play makers around him that Max had. That being said, Hoffman showed that he isn't the elite receiver some thought. He was shut down, mainly by Burton. He is a big receiver but lacks the speed to be an elite guy. Mckay stepped up and had a good game after not being a huge factor this year. Juice will be good but he is young. He wasn't productive yesterday because he was going against a great rush defense.
The BYU D is night and day different than the one that started the season. I have to give it to Bronco, I personally think that defense lacks a big number of playmakers and he has defense playing extremely well and shutting down teams since he took over control. They made Wynn look stupid yesterday. He had no idea where to go with the ball. Rich will be extremely hard to replace as will both corners. I know Junkie is high on Eason, I have a different opinion on that.
I need to go and watch the game again as I was sitting high atop RES with JIC. I have it recorded but have only watched the controversial plays.
I will give my thoughts on the future in another thread. This post got a bit long."Take it to the Bank"

One more thing, the play calling from both OC's. I didn't like the way Roderick called the game. He didn't want anything to do with the run in the first half. He pulls his head out in the second half, runs the ball and the Utes are able to something offensively. JIC and I weren't happy about that.
I actually thought Anae called a really good game. He knew he had a freshman q.b. back there in his first rivalry game and he put him in position and called the right plays so he could make plays to win the game. There were a couple of plays I questioned. I loved that he went for it on 4th and 1 on the 10 or 11. I thought it was a smart decision. I would have done the same. I wouldn't have called the play he called but I agreed with going for it. I did and still wonder what Anae was thinking on the first two plays of the last drive. I was blown away.
The Utah offense was also hurt by bad field position in the first half. They couldn't get anything going so in return they would give BYU good field position in the first half and would put the Utah d in a bad situation. When the Utah D ended up stopping them it was always around mid field and BYU would pin Utah inside the 10 time and time again in the first half. That didn't help either. BYU won the field positions battle. That is for sure.Last edited by Hot Lunch; 11-28-2010, 07:59 PM."Take it to the Bank"

I just do not see much drop off from Bradley to Eason. I think where it will hurt the most next year is finding a corner that is as good in the open field as Logan. He is also a very solid cover guy and yes his height has hurt him (see the christopher TD, a 5'10 corner picks that easy) but he makes plays especially in run support and I am not sure I have ever seen a corner blow up that many screen plays.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI have heard that helps guys cover people.
Eason and Bradley are a wash in my opinion the big challenge will be replacing Logan.*Banned*
