That was my thought as well. I was thinking that with the way the D was playing two scores might be to much for utah to overcome.*Banned*

Taking the points IS playing to win in a game that is being dominated by the defenses.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostAnd if we had converted (which we would have had Hoffman not dropped it) it would have been genius and we could have gone up 13-0.
I get the need to go up two scores, and with hindsight saying that we lost by one, of course it is an easy and obvious call to go back and bemoan. But I don't fault them one bit going for it and playing to win instead of just taking the points.
When BYU took the field to go for it I told my son, "This is gonna come back to bite us." When we lost my son said "You were right dad. They shoulda kicked the field goal" My kids now thinks I am prophetic so at least I have that going for me.Dyslexics are teople poo...

I think it was awful. We've had a season full of dropped passes on plays that worked. No way do you not take the points there.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostWhat do you guys think about Bronco going for that 4th down? Hindsight says it was the wrong decision. However the playcall was good and Hoffman just dropped the pass. If he completes that I think we score a TD there.
Its hard to second guess it when the play actually worked.

Other than the horrendous screw-up by the replay ref, I thought the refs called a good game, letting both teams play--only five penalties between both teams was nice. Of course, the one exception makes my comment seem like "Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"

I was listening on the radio driving home, both my wife and I were yelling to kick it before during and after the play. Going up 2 scores in a defensive slug fest is huge and in hindsight was huge.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostWhat do you guys think about Bronco going for that 4th down? I didn't see a lot of cheap shots or dirty plays be either team. The players deserve credit for that.

Your wife screaming to kick seals it, absolutely correct call was made.Originally posted by SCcoug View PostI was listening on the radio driving home, both my wife and I were yelling to kick it before during and after the play. Should have gone with a QB sneak or take the fg. You have to play the odds on 4th and nothing. Anae and Bronco may not have noticed but our receivers hands have been somewhat questionable this year.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostWhat do you guys think about Bronco going for that 4th down? And I can't figure out for the life of me why Bronco didn't call for a measurement on that. Its a free timeout if nothing else.

I felt like at that point in The game going for it was worth the risk. I think that if you get two TOs and only have six points to show it gives Utah momentum. If you go up 13 you really put Utah on their heals.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThat was my thought as well. I wouldn't have been upset had he kicked it either and taken the points but I also believe you don't win games on the road kicking FGs.

Ok, now we are just piling on. The only dude on the planet who couldn't tell Bradley's ass was on the mat thinks it was the wrong call.Originally posted by DapperDan View PostShould have gone with a QB sneak or take the fg. Absolutely right call during the game.

Blaming playcalling is the easiest and lamest thing to do. I would have done a qb sneak on 4th down but hindsight is always 20-20. Maybe if we play more aggressive we end up throwing int's or give up sacks that kill drives and give up field position. Maybe if we go more conservative we don't score as many points. There's no way to know and I get sick of hearing from fans that are certain the paycalling is horrible.

Congrats, Utes. Solid play on the blocked FG, and we're the last people who should be complaining about losing a game like that.
This actually doesn't sting all that badly. We played a good game on both sides of the ball, arguably better than the Utes, but lost on a few bad breaks. If there were still something significant to play for this year, I'd be a lot more bummed about the loss, but right now, I care a lot more about the quality of play and how the future looks.
And the future looks good. Heaps proved he can move the ball against a solid defense and will take home a lot from this game. On a rebuilding year with the most impotent offense we've had in a while, we could have won by 14 without a few bad breaks; I see BYU beating them by 20+ next year. For this game only, I'd rather lose looking good, with some hope for the future, than be in Utah's position with a somewhat lucky win and what could be a sub-500 season coming up.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
