I was kidding. But he was the son of Sonny Detmer and it looks like Ty has the recruiting thing down at St Andrews Episcopal where they just got slapped with 3 years probation for recruiting in America Samoa.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostWe all have the utmost respect for Detmer as a player, and there is no question that he knows the game inside and out and certainly maximized his physical abilities. Despite serving 14-years or however long it was carrying a clipboard and holding the occasional PAT and finding the field as an injury replacement, Detmer was not a coach. As far as I've read (and maybe I'm wrong, it's happened before) he was never involved in things like game planning, he never spent his time organizing practices and giving critiques, he was probably the one being critiqued.
Do I think Detmer is coaching material? Absolutely. But I can't go out on a limb and say that he's ready to go right now as an OC, or that he's a guy that is going to relate to 19-23 year old kids off the bat and get them to listen to him. He's got enough clout as a Heisman winner and with a 14-year NFL career to suggest that he could, but the coaching side of his resume, it's not there IMO.

You realize we're playing Texas next year?Originally posted by Sizzle View PostYou do realize UCLA is 99th in total offense at 318 yards per game this year (BYU is 107 at 303). They are also 86th in scoring offense at 22 points a game (granted, BYU is 114th at 14.7)"Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Yeah, doesn't Ty know that he shouldn't go on Samonan fishing trips? That is what the booster club is for.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI was kidding. If anyone's calling for Detmer to be hired as OC, they're an idiot. The same kind that wants to immediately populate the coaching staff with Chad Lewis, Justin Ena, Cameron Jensen and Ben Cahoon.
Doman's going to be the next OC, unless the new ESPN money allows Bronco to hire a big name OC.
This being said, I think Detmer as QB coach makes a lot of sense. With his coaching pedigree and his NFL experience, I think he's got a lot to offer.
I can't imagine he'd be so arrogant as to refuse to be a coach under Brandon Doman. He's coaching a crappy HS team right now.If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Good (not) take from TBS via CB on Anae:

"The offense is too complicated for our young players."
So which is it fire Anae because the offense is too vanilla and bland.
Or fire Anae because the offense is too complicated?
Get it straight, people. I know we need to fire Anae, but we need our logic consistent or people will think we're just being idiots.

Texas Tech was consistently starting juniors and seniors at QB. BYU used to do the same.Originally posted by jay santos View PostGood (not) take from TBS via CB on Anae:

The offense might be 'simplistic', but the fact is that it's not the playcalls that make the difference, it's the ability for the QB and WRs to quickly make the correct reads.
