Yet Jake took over the world this week with that rocket launcher attached to his shoulder.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostPeople who think Nelson's passing game has a chance of working should be forced to watch his duck that was intercepted over and over about 20 times. Heaps completed about 6-8 balls today that Nelson wouldn't have a prayer of making.
I love Jake but you are not helping his cause.

Looks like i didn't miss much. I think it's too bad that we are stinking up the joint but I beleive that a 2 QB system deprives the team of a leader. Hopefully we have some consistency with the position and the offense can get behind "the guy".
It's funny that almost a year ago that i was in the same place, same time: traveling internationally (i'm in the exact airline lounge), missing the game, having to get the vibe from CUF.
Look, fellow Cougars, we just sort of stink this year and it's unlikely to change much. Let's lower our expectations, hope that small improvements can snowball into big changes.
I cheer for my team, rain or shine.

Is there any silver lining from the last 2 weeks?
Maybe that DiLuigi is improving and contributing. Also, I think Jake looked fairly poised today and that even though he's not going to be good for more than 3-4 scoring drives per game against average defenses for now, I think he will gain confidence quickly. I think the defense will improve, and they came up with more stops against FSU than last year, not that that's saying much.
I agree with those that say the WRs have been serious underperformers so far. But I think committing to Heaps and getting him and the WRs on the same page is the way to go. They should have just committed to it sooner and given Heaps all the reps and the QB-WR timing and ability of the WRs to create space may have been farther ahead that they are.
I'm not saying that Heaps is much better than Riley for now, but we need to look to the future.

Dude the 2nd half of the AFA was all riley tuck and run, 3 and outs, minus the last drive where we had to throw and OC dropped a pass.Originally posted by Shaka View PostUh not really.
It is obvious Nelson can not throw well enough to be a QB. No one besides USU recruited him as a QB. If you look at his throws, it becomes obvious why.
Heaps throws passes too fast and they are dropped. That is on the receivers.

I think the overall problem is that neither of these guys is good enough to be starting. The old adage that if you have two quarterbacks what that really means is you don't have any likely applies.Originally posted by Shaka View PostIn the context of the last two games this take is rather pathetic. Heaps performance this week certainly wasn't better than Nelson last week. Are you going to throw him under the bus too?
That said, Riley has had a lot of time to get there ... the fact that he's not means he's not gonna be. He's at his ceiling. Jake on the other hand has tremendous upside. The touchdown play was as much evidence of that as you need. That was an NFL throw. Riley could be in that position 100 times and not make that throw IMO.
So if the two guys are evenly matched, develop the younger one. There is so much youth / inexperience all over the field this year that it's gonna be a tough year anyway. Get Jake the game experience and give the team a chance to gel / develop under his leadership."It's true that everything happens for a reason. I think Riley has a role on this team but I am not sure where. He is a good enough athlete that he needs to be on the field somewhere.
Maybe he can play WR I bet he will catch the ball.*Banned*

And the coaches. A Heaps pass and a Nelson pass coudl not be more different. One is a bullet, the other sails. One is from a southpaw, etc. I bet if Heaps had had the bulk of the reps with the 1s in Fall Camp and through the season up until now, they'd be catching a lot better.Originally posted by Maximus View PostDude the 2nd half of the AFA was all riley tuck and run, 3 and outs, minus the last drive where we had to throw and OC dropped a pass.

No, the context of the last two games is why I feel comfortable making that statement -- terrible and pathetic throw after terrible and pathetic throw. Just a wet noodle for an arm.Originally posted by Shaka View PostIn the context of the last two games this take is rather pathetic. My comment was not a comparison of Heaps vs. Nelson. It was an observation of Riley's passing ability. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Dude, just like this week with Heaps Nelson did not have time. When Nelson tucked and ran last week Jake took a sack this week. The result was the same.Originally posted by Maximus View PostDude the 2nd half of the AFA was all riley tuck and run, 3 and outs, minus the last drive where we had to throw and OC dropped a pass.

Nelson can throw better than you think. However he will never be able to demonstrate that to any degree if the O-line doesn't clean things up.
The funny thing is not arguing for Nelson. I'm arguing for honesty when games are evaluated. Junkie and I don't always agree but I respect his opinion because he can break down a game beyond the, "Nelson can't throw accurately for more than ten yards" thing.
You, Grace, and especially MPFunk really aren't doing Heaps any favors by continuing to go after Nelson.

Newsflash: Jake had some crappy throws today including throwing a couple short. He also stared down some receivers.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostNo, the context of the last two games is why I feel comfortable making that statement -- terrible and pathetic throw after terrible and pathetic throw.
