Pretty sad that our unprecendented 2013 indy schedule is close to par with New Mexico State.

What? Please entertain us with your analysis that the 2013 NMSU schedule is comparable to the 2013 BYU schedule. This has GOT to be good.

look at the schedule. their home games of note are SDSU, Minnesota, and Boston College, all of whom should be guaranteed a win. I don't think that's really anything to toot their horn about.

          UTEP
          Abilene Christian
          Rice
          Boston College
          Idaho
          San Diego State

I think it's a good schedule -- for NMSU. It certainly isn't the caliber of BYU's 2013 schedule.

My gestalt contrast of the schedules, home then away.

              BYU / NMSU / Edge
Texas / Boston College * BYU
              Boise / Minnestoa * BYU
              Utah / SDSU * BYU
Ga. Tech / UTEP * draw, GT is bad. UTEP is rivalry game
Idaho / Rice * NMSU, not by much though
              MTSU / Idaho * draw
              - / Abileine Christian * NMSU getting 7th home game is very good

              BYU / NMSU / Edge
Notre Dame / Texas * draw
              Wisconsin / UCLA * draw
Virginia / UNM * draw, arguably UTEP due to rivalry game
Utah State / UL Laf. * draw, arguably BYU due to rivalry game
Nevada / Fl. Atlantic * draw, but bad game for BYU if we lose
Idaho State / - * NMSU, playing Idaho on the road is a joke

Fairly close, IMO. The top 3 BYU home games are better, but NMSU's is no slouch. And how in the world did NMSU get a one and done home game in Las Cruces with Boston College? Considering this is NMSU's first year of independence, and this is BYU's best schedule by far, I think the degree of difficulty for NMSU is impressive.

So like I said, "on par". Are you not entertained?

Your home analysis is reasonable but your road game analysis is silly.

What BYU schedule are you looking at?

Also, I certainly disagree with your characterizations of several of the teams. Oh, and of course it's easy for NMSU to get good teams to play them - it's a guaranteed win for the superior programs.

You missed the point. BYU's independent schedule (to me at least) isn't that compelling, and NMSU has put together a similar one in less time. Does it matter to me that people think NMSU stinks? Not really, that doesn't make BYU's exhibition season more meaningful.

                      Wisc > UCLA
                      1. UNM is a rivalry game for NMSU. UVa is an underachieving program from the ACC. If UVa were a better program, or had some significant shared history with BYU, then I might agree with you.

                      2. UL Laf had a good season, although so did USU. If you argued that USU as a rivalry game is better, I wouldn't strenuously object. But at the end of the day, USU is still USU. To the fan in the Eastern or Central timezone, which team is more compelling, UL Laf or USU?

                      3. Nevada is a trap game. BYU wins and no one cares, lose and everyone laughs. The upside for both BYU and NMSU is about the same (beating Fl Atl might get NMSU bowl eligible), but the downside for BYU is worse.

                      4. I think that your familiarity with UCLA is breeding contempt. Playing UCLA is a big deal, it is in a traditional recruiting base for both BYU and NMSU. We've played them a lot, so maybe it seems less glamorous than Wisconsin.

                      • I'd rather play Wisconsin then UCLA. They're both fun games. They're both games we could play as an independent or a member of a conference.

I think BYU's schedule is significantly better. Teams aren't going to want to come play BYU here because they know it's a tough game at our place. They don't really care about that aspect with NMSU because NMSU isn't good enough competitively for teams to be nervous about playing them.

I think it's more difficult to schedule if you're in BYU's shoes because we're a more respected program than NMSU, but we're not respected at the level a team like Notre Dame is. That creates a problem with playing better teams, because teams are not afraid to lose to Notre Dame, they are concerned for perception reasons with losing to BYU. I don't think that exists at all with playing NMSU. I'd also be curious to see how many 2/1's they gave. I don't think we've ever played UCLA 2/1.

Maybe you should recheck the 2014 and 2015 schedules.
