Well, they ducked BYU to play Oklahoma. They could have played BYU and shut everyone up, but they thought it would be awesome to play Oklahoma instead for a bigger payday, thus ducking an unbeaten team and thinking in their arrogance that if they beat Oklahoma they would be voted above an unbeaten team that they ducked.

Utah ducking BYU this year has nothing to do with Washington ducking BYU in 1984. It also appears you don't know as much about BYU football as you thought you did. #SJBH

Well, Michigan was a decent team. They were down on their luck a bit that year, were ranked during the year, but suffered some injuries and it cost them. Fortunately for them, those guys got healthy before the bowl game and when they were all healthy, they were a pretty good team. When healthy earlier in the year, that same Michigan team lost to the same Washington team that ducked BYU by 9 points and also beat #1 Miami to start off the year.

It's not really like this years Michigan team, which is ridiculously bad, has a lame duck coach, and will be lucky to be bowl eligible in a weak conference, as well as sporting some of the worst QB play in the nation.

It's good to know you are down with a team that would duck an unbeaten team for more money. That really shows what Washington is all about, wouldn't you say?

Those individuals that had a say in the rankings and did watch those teams felt as though they didn't deserve to be ranked in the final poll at the end of the season. So yeah, they probably weren't that good. BYU was the consensus national champ.

I just thought you might want to know how they compared to the team BYU played thirty years ago.

But it's a stupid discussion, really. Why argue about what should or shouldn't have happened when we know what actually happened? Seems like a pretty pointless exercise.

You've just seemed like you are ok with it. Nobody wanted to play BYU in 1984. They asked a lot of people to come play them in that bowl.

If I was a team like Washington that thought they had a claim to a NC, I would want to play the only unbeaten team that was ranked #1. But that's just me.

I don't know anything about Washington ducking BYU. I am sure it is similar to those fans that think Utah was scared to play BYU this year. You already proved you have nothing to add when you said that a game that took place the following year should factor into it.

uofutah was and is afraid of BYU, very afraid. With juggernauts like WSU, CU, and UA coming up, Dr. Hill and Coach Kyle had to dumb down the schedule with pushovers like ISU, Fresno, and Michigan.
