I hope this is a fake. First Holmoe leaves him hanging for five days because he's out of town. Then he makes a stupid decision and blames it on Bronco.

I can see why Bronco didn't take it. He's not going to be here in 2023. He probably won't even be here in 2018.

Well, if Bronco is here until 2018, that would mean he would be forced to prepare for two road games in Lincoln without anything in return, as opposed to only one.Originally posted by Maximus View Postso why would he care?

It's a home and home with Nebraska. I would have liked to at least see us negotiate it. Try to get the home game second instead of last. Or closer in time to 2018. Kind of a pointless discussion because we don't know if any of these negotiations took place. But it's not a data point in favor of Holmoe.Originally posted by Jacob View PostWhy does it matter in this case? A home game in 2023 is not a great offer that you need to jump at.

Sure. But maybe Holmoe had already tried to negotiate the home game as the second. I'm certain he did. He's not a moron, after all. I agree with your general sentiment. But when the return game is more than 10 years out, there is a good probability that you end up playing 2 road games and they cancel the return game over a decade away.Originally posted by jay santos View PostIt's a home and home with Nebraska. I don't think it just had to do with the 2023 game with Bronco. For some reason, Bronco apparently does not like to play 2-for-1s, but is OK with one-and-dones. This is why the Texas 2-for-1 had to be structured as 2 separate contracts even though it was in reality a single 2-for-1 deal that was negotiated all at once as a single deal. Here's an internal document where Texas's Deputy Director of Athletics says that Holmoe insisted on setting it up that way because Bronco won't do 2-for-1s (but apparently is willing to do single road games):

If this was the true discussion.Originally posted by Scratch View PostIt at least appears to be true. Here's an email between Holmoe and the Nebraska AD in which Holmoe rejects a 2-for-1 because Bronco would prefer the single game:

Holmes has no negotiating skills whatsoever and seems to bow to Bronco (No wonder his ego is so large).. You counter that freaking offer. Solidify the 1st date as golden and work to get the second game at BYU and the 3rd in Nebraska..
The fact he came back with. "Talked to Bronco and we only want the 1st game" is stupid and makes me wonder who is running the Atheletic Dept.

I don't know if Holmoe ever tried to negotiate that sequence. It's not in the correspondence, but very well could have occurred during the phone call mentioned in that email.Originally posted by Jacob View PostSure. I do know that Holmoe originally refused to do a 2-for-1 or single road game, but eventually caved:

If Holmoe is having to go behind Bronco's back to schedule games, I wonder whether his contract is going to be renewed at this point.
I suspect that if Andy Reid becomes available at the time Bronco's contract is up, things are going to be interesting. If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

To what extent is it important for the so-called "missionary" component of byu athletics to visit lots of different locales? I wonder if there is pressure to try to get to the team all over the country, both to build the Mormon brand and also to galvanize the Mormon base. Maybe just a little bit?Originally posted by Indy Coug View Post
