Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I left at the beginning of the 4th quarter but I thought BYU looked solid. I didn't watch any of the final few games with Retzlaff at QB but I thought he looked good enough for BYU to win 6-8 games this year if the defense stays healthy.
I think as LJ Martin becomes more of a RB1 rather than the best RB in an RB by committee it will help. I would like to see him take 1/3 of Ropati's carries. The WR are certainly good enough and even possess a couple of decent playmakers. I think the OL is improved from last season as well.
The defense seemed pretty good to me. Obviously, the competition was not real good but I think BYU has some things it can definitely build upon defensively for this year. I thought BYU controlled both LOS comfortably.
While optimistic I don't think BYU can be good enough to win 9 and be a top 25 team this year so perhaps the 8 win limit is a bit of a stretch-but I do think BYU ought to make a bowl game this year and win 4 Big 12 games.

I think this Locked on Big12 video is very fair and honest. Retzlaff wasn't great by any means. What is it, 9 fumles and 6 lost in his 6 starts? Unless Bohanon is Conover levels of bad, the coaches need to put him in if Retz can't get his TOs under control. Not just his TOs though, some of his throws were just way off and straight into the dirt. Odd. However, the majority of the blame has got to be on ARod. Let's get our B12 $$ and big donors, and go get a legit OC.
The defense rocked though, and I'm super excited to watch them. Jay Hill is looking to be Sitake's best hire in his time here.

Give him the 1st half against Wyoming. See how that goes. But there should be no hesitation putting in GB if he is making careless mistakes.Originally posted by byufan4ever View PostI think this Locked on Big12 video is very fair and honest. Am I the only one who is happy with ARod’s play calling?
Generally his offense works. The only play I was really frustrated with was on the fourth and inches that was a disaster. Put the QB under center and sneak it.
This is nothing like the Detmer days where the offense just wasn’t working. ARod’s plays generally get yards and move the ball.
It seemed clear to me that the issue Friday night was the QB play. The turnovers and bad throws were the main problem. Last year the issue was the O-line, which seems much improved this year.
I think ARod probably is a bad recruiter, which may need to cost him his job, but I don’t think he is a bad play caller.

I'm with you. ARod is fine. I know the turnovers can't be dismissed, but take away the two VERY bad decisions that resulted in the two ints and Retzlaff has a very nice game. SMU is not a world beater but their DLine is very good, definitely in the top tier of lines we will face this year. I'm not excusing the two ints as they were very bad and if he wants to stay QB1 JR needs to eliminate that stuff.Originally posted by beefytee View PostAm I the only one who is happy with ARod’s play calling?

I didn't get to watch the game live due to being at a HS game and I just skimmed the recording and watched key plays. I'm sure JR had some misfires I didn't see but i. the byu post-game show Hans claimed the receivers also dropped quite a few. Is that accurate?

Jake was awesome that first drive and then seemed a little off after that. He skipped a quick out to the wide receiver and then threw behind the wide receiver another time. Then on that sure TD to Marion he threw to the outside and Marion had to readjust to the outside. Also, he had a couple of passes batted down by the d-line. Those ints and his fumble made him seem pretty flustered. He should be able to clean that up.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View Post

What is up with Epps? He dropped a pass yesterday and has been underwhelming since his time in the portal last year.
I hope LJ can heal quickly. I don't know why we couldn't bring in a portal RB this past year.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Second possession. First possession was fine, except for the fumble.Originally posted by myboynoah View Post

Ah yes, you are correct. I thought we were off to the races after that drive.Originally posted by Pelado View Post

As did I. Offense was clicking, defense was stonewalling them. Then they started getting production out of the alternate QB while the BYU offense decided to forego forward progress.Originally posted by myboynoah View Post
