  • MS (edited) is a KWhitt protege. Most coaches learn at the foot of a mentor. I'm not sure him knowing how to run KWhitt's D is a knock against him. Pedigree has some importance in the college football world. I've watched him coach and he knows his stuff. I also can't figure out why BYU fans would hold their nose at an obviously successful and qualified LDS coaching candidate.

are you referring to MS - sorry, JS doesn't ring a bell. but if Scalley, i don't know that anybody is saying he can't coach or that they are holding their noses at him, rather it's skepticism at exactly how good of a coach he is. i'm sure he's a fine football coach. p5 level head football coach? possibly, but color me skeptical coming from that system.

Because he hates BYU and thinks the athletes, students, and administration are pricks?

                He apologized.

I don't think BYU should get rid of Kalani after this season but I think his leash is going to be much shorter in 2024. My only coaching demand is that he has to do something with the offensive line staff and shore up recruiting. If BYU can get a majority of the top LDS candidates and a reasonable amount of non-LDS talent then we will be competitive. We do need coaches who can get the most out of our recruits and walk-ons.

I have zero problems with those who want to discuss potential Kalani replacements. Of those Scalley is near the top of the list.

Sitake was a great recruiter at Utah. He has been kind of meh as a recruiter at BYU. Maybe, the problem is the university he is selling? Just wondering.

Recruiting is the biggest issue though, Isn't it? As an institution, does BYU have enough support to recruit how you need to today at the admin and BOT level? You buy teams now. Utah is buying all the top LDS and in state recruits. Will BYU be allowed to do that?

That's correct. However, a big part of the problem has been independence and not being in a P5. Both of those issues are fixed and the recruiting playing field, especially for LDS recruits, is a bit more level. The right coach will be able to take advantage.

BYU absolutely needs a competitive NIL program.

But the question remains, will the institution be hostile to an NIL collective that can compete with the uofU collective? Also, is there more wealth among the UofU donors and alumni than BYU's?

I have no idea what the plans are to get competitive. I've heard that there is going to be a vehicle program similar to what's going on at the U. BYU needs a better NIL program than the U.

From what I have been told, both would be accomplished with the ouster of Funk.
