It's days like this where I think we are better suited to just be in a G5 conference. It sounds really cool to be invited to play with the big boys, but with our head coach and recruiting limitations, it's just going to be hard. Would we rather have 9-10 win seasons in the MWC (or similar conference) or 4-5 win seasons in the Big 12? I'm not confident that this is will be fixed in 2 years. We just don't pay our coaches enough and get good enough NIL deals to compete with the big boys.
Everyone had a fun time Wilson's last season when our team put up crazy numbers, right? Well, that was a weak schedule. I'm conflicted because I was getting sick of independence and the MWC TV deal and broadcasting was just horrible. But competition wise, I just kinda feel that that is where we belong..."Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react." - Charles Swindoll

Do you really think this team could get 9 to 10 wins in the MWC? I don't think BYU could. I truly don't know what's wrong with this program but if hitting rock bottom is necessary before changes are made to whatever the roadblock is, then let's get it over with ASAP. The state of this program is gross right now.Originally posted by byufan4ever View PostIt's days like this where I think we are better suited to just be in a G5 conference. I know most mainly or only care about football, but there are several other sports that definitely deserve to be in the Big 12 and are proving so right now. Cross country won a conference title already and soccer and volleyball are towards the top. Basketball is going to be ok. Long term, being in a major conference is the only sustainable option.Originally posted by byufan4ever View PostIt's days like this where I think we are better suited to just be in a G5 conference. Says the guy who wants heads to roll.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostAnyone who wants to go back to G5 is an idiot. SJBH.
Who gets fired, for what reason and who replaces them?
Does anyone have any expectation of success the first 3-5 years in the B12?
Utah went 28-35 in conference the first 7 years in the P12. It’s taken them 7 years to build a legit P5 team without any religious restrictions.

I had no expectations of success this season. Utah didn't get absolutely blown off the field by average to below average conference foes like we did.
It'll take a while to build and one of the main issues is Utah being so freaking good that recruiting is rough. Anyone wanting to go back to G5 is still idiotic. That fact remains unchanged.

Firing Sitake is a stupid choice. I think BYU should do that. Hire that Detmer fellow as head coach.Originally posted by fusnik View Post

It is different being in a real conference. It will take time.

I guess I'm somewhere in the middle between "fire everyone" and "we just need time and we all know growing pains would happen." BYU obviously has a talent issue. BYU hasn't had the resources to build the necessary recruiting infrastructure. That will take time. But the wheels have come off in the second half of the season. BYU is 1-4 in their last 5 games. They have lost by 33, 29, 30, and 32 in those games. Kalani is obviously lost and his post games comments don't conceal that fact.Originally posted by fusnik View Post

The concerning thing is how this team seems to be regressing, following the same pattern as last year. Part of that can be attributed to injuries, but not all. Players are not playing assignment sound football. I feel like accountability is still a problem with this team.
Of course, overall competition has gone up, so we're not surprised when we lose to Iowa State, but we are surprised at how badly we played against them. It was interesting hearing the crowd turn against the team's efforts. From a smattering of boos to more sustained boos. The fireworks after the 3Q seemed out of place. I could hear many people clapping along with Cosmo. People were heading for the exits or had already left. By 6:54 in the 4th, the stadium was very empty.

Certainly get a new OL coach, but perhaps a different approach to coaching needs to occur from the top down.
