Option 5 - Independence. This really is not an option in the minds of Texas officials. They will not go independent.

      • Switzer gives his opinion...

Former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer, meanwhile, had some advice for Gundy, Sooner coach Bob Stoops and officials at both Bedlam schools. Switzer emphatically suggested that all the current recruiting efforts at OU and OSU should focus solely on convincing Texas to stay in the same conference as the Sooners and Cowboys.

The comments from Gundy and Switzer were prompted by the latest chaotic conference realignment news involving the Big 12 and the Pac-12.

Several media outlets confirmed Texas officials traveled to Norman on Sunday to meet with their counterparts at OU about the conference future of both schools.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that UT is determined to keep the Big 12 intact, even after Texas A&M leaves for the SEC. OU representatives reportedly informed the Longhorns of the Sooners' intentions of applying for membership in the Pac-12 along with OSU.

"I don't know where they're going," Switzer said Monday in a telephone interview. "But I think (OU & OSU) would be making a hell of a mistake to not go where Texas goes.

"What gives you the best chance to recruit in Texas? To compete against Texas."

OU and OSU weren't in the same league with the Longhorns when Switzer coached the Sooners. The Bedlam Brothers belonged to the Big Eight, while Texas was in the Southwest Conference.

"It was tougher for me and for all the schools in the Big Eight to recruit in Texas," Switzer said. "Every one of the schools in the Southwest Conference negatively recruited against us.

"Bob (Stoops) doesn't have that problem. It's easier to recruit when you're in the same conference with Texas."

        [...]

The man who won three national championships by consistently signing some of Texas' top high school talent knows some in the Sooner Nation don't want to hear his comment about OU's need to be in the same league as Texas.

"We could not win without it (Texas talent)," said Switzer of his years battling Southwest Conference coaches in recruiting. "Every home I went into, they all said, "let's keep them in Texas and fight among ourselves and cut OU out of it.

"There are 1,700 high schools south of the Red River and we (recruit) them against Texas, so we need to sell the same things. And we need to be kicking their (behind) in the same league instead of not competing against them in a different league."

In other words, it's fine to head west to recruit young men. But don't ever draw up a map that doesn't include Texas - the state and the university.
"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.

        • Some school like Boise State needs to start an alliance with all the Non-BCS schools and let Oklahoma know that if they want to start college football armageddon and destroy 80+ athletic programs/and severely hurt the universities that they aren't going to go quietly in regards to them and the Pac-16 and litigation.

Little brother syndrome is about to destroy college football, egos are a terrible thing sometimes.

            • Will Dan Beebe ever be able to land another leadership position after all of this is over? What a horrible conference commissioner. Even Craig T was better than this clown.

Who would? Oklahoma is the only one "gaining" anything here and changing the whole face of college football because of it for the worse. Some of the worst domino effect from one decision you'll ever see.

Yes, they did win a Nat Championship in the last decade, but there are many other programs in CFB with better resumes.

Remember when Uncle Ted was posting that Tombstone "bye" youtube clip in regards to aTm bolting for the SEC? Well, here about a month later they're on the 2012 SEC schedule and your president is in Norman kissing Sooner ass to save your little fiefdom. LOL!

                  • Ok, so maybe OU was a bit more serious than I thought.

Texas' arrogance is really pissing me off and as a fan, I have to say it pisses me off. (Redundancy added)

Is this how Ute fans feel all the time about BYU?

Now it is Oklahoma's fault. Yesterday all of this was Mizzou's fault. lol.

If the Big 12 explodes and Rick Perry gets elected president, I'm moving back to Utah. At least I can cope with that brand of crazy.

                            • But for Texas, joining the Pac-12 would be going from a free-market economy to socialism.

Before the internet I was blissfully unaware that the arrogance stemmed from something other than on-the-field performance. Damn you, Al Gore. Damn you to Stillwater.
