I am under no delusions as to what BYU is, or what their performance has been against BCS teams. A .500 record versus BCS programs is an 8 win season when you are scheduling 4wins every year. I am not afraid of a few 6-6 and 7-5 seasons, especially when the ceiling is the Poinsettia Bowl or San Francisco Bowl (unless BYU is in the top 2 BCS which will never happen in either scheduling philosophy.)

I think you're making a rash assumption if you assume BYU can't get an at-large BCS berth with an 11-1 or 12-0 record. Dave Brown of ESPN, himself, said he believes BYU is in the BCS if they are 11-1 as an independent. I can provide a link to that if you'd like.

I also think you're making an unnecessary assumption if you assume BYU will not be able to make some tiered bowl agreements with games like the Holiday Bowl (most likely based on ranking and/or number of wins). Much like the early schedules, BYU has to take some less-desirable bowl agreements now until some of the bigger bowl contracts come open beginning in 2014 (Holiday Bowl).

Notre Dame's and Arkansas' names popped up as prospective future Big 12 members, and Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long confirmed on Wednesday that contact did occur.

It also went about as expected.

He said the Big 12 did express interest in trying to lure Arkansas away from the SEC. Long didn’t provide any exact details, but said the conversation didn’t go far. He said Arkansas is strongly committed to the SEC.

“I think that our program is such that there are a number of conferences that would love to add us as a member,” Long said. “But we’re strongly committed to the SEC. I’d be surprised if we weren’t reached out to by other conferences about joining them. That happened. It didn’t surprise me. But, again, we’re committed to the SEC. It’s the strongest conference in the country and is only going to get stronger.”
