Notre Dame joining the Big Ten would have helped with Big 12 stability. But I don't blame the Irish for remaining independent given their history with the Big Ten. Replace Colorado with BYU in the Big 12 and put Notre Dame in the Big Ten and everyone is happy.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostI think its pretty clear that Missouri is the one that will be responsible ultimately for the death of the Big 12 conference if this current instability leads to its demise.
If Missouri hadn't begged the Big 10 to take them last year and just Colorado leaving the Big 12 would've replaced Colo and it wouldn't have been a blip in the radar as far as moving forward with stability.
There's blame enough to go around and don't think the hands of anyone are clean in this mess. First it was Notre Dame for jilting the Big Ten over a decade ago. Lately, Colorado for wanting to join the PAC-10. Next is was Missouri for begging to join the Big Ten. Then Colorado and Nebraska actually left. Not wanting to be outdone, Texas A&M thinks the Aggie pastures are greener in the SEC. And finally, OU wants its "look at me momment" they are the Sooners after all; not the "Laters".
The real blame is simple demographics. The population and prized TV markets reside in the Lone Star State with a flagship university that long ago grew accustomed to getting its way.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

3/4 would require 9 votes. So 4 to block. I should have said 3/4.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View Post3/4 majority or 8 votes.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

In a sane world Utah/Colorado and the Arizona schools would block this move. But I can't believe Oklahoma would be making this move without knowing they're in. But then again none of this makes sense to me.Originally posted by falafel View Post3/4 would require 9 votes. So 4 to block. I should have said 3/4.

There was a comment from one of the Arizona presidents earlier to the effect of "We are against it, but if Larry Scott thinks we should do it, we will vote yes.""There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

That's one view, mine is different is all. I think these leaks are on purpose and the message continues to be 'we're serious about leaving' as if anyone should doubt that at this point.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThat message being ....?
I think the message delivered by each one of these leaks is that the B12 is history. OU couldn't possibly make it less stable. Yeah, but I am still waiting for an explanation as to why they would do this if they aren't serious about leaving. What advantage do they gain by doing it?Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThat's one view, mine is different is all. I was with you, but they already took them seriously. The regents approving this is going to have every member of the conference scrambling in the biggest musical chairs game we've seen. Any shred of stability that was remaining is gone now.

That's only because the Conference leaders typically only make a decision after assuring themselves that they have enough school presidents to support their recommendation.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostWhen the Conference leaders make a decision to expand, I think there is an unwritten rule that even those who don't agree just have to fall in line and vote for it.
