  • Chip Brown on the exit fee...

A&M also had to work out the exit fees with the Big 12 and get the legal waivers that A&M would not sue the Big 12 (for lower exit fees) and vice versa (the Big 12 would not sue for all the exit fees).

As it stands right now, the Big 12 is withholding revenue to A&M for the rest of the academic year, which will total between $15 million and $18 million, sources say.
Given that aTm has a good chance of going to a major bowl I would say they will be closer to the $18M (because of incentives, I believe reading about).

Also, he said this about baylor showing up late...

There is a threat out there that Baylor loyalists are going to file a tortious interference lawsuit against the SEC. Too little, too late?
    And...

I wasn't invited to the courthouse with the Baylor lawyers. So we'll see if they follow through. Some things have to play out before we can talk about it further.

Babs told me this once and I didn't believe her. I'm also not going to believe Stoops. Maybe if he could beat a non-BCS private school with a team made up mostly of slow, white-looking guys but he can't so I'm just going to not believe him.

WVU in the SEC is almost perfect as they are Pitt's rival. Pitt would probably jump at the possibility of joining the Big 12 if it were stabilized with BYU and a commitment from UT/OU.

Or maybe I just want this to happen so I can road trip to Pittsburgh...

        • I'm at peace tonight. I have come to terms with BYU's status as an independent. This contract with ESPN will probably be our life preserver as we wait out the demise of the super-conference. Over the last couple of days BYU has been all over ESPN: Highlights featured on Sportcenter (even in the promo), Bronco appearing on the Scott Van Pelt Show, featured in columns and opinion peices... Its not an ideal situation but it will get BYU by. If somehow BYU is included in the madness, all the better. But for now I have come to terms with what will most likely result.

OU should talk to Arkansas about how their Texas recruiting was hurt after they left the SWC (I recall reading somewhere it dropped from 60% Texas players to something like 20%). Mack Brown also talked about this earlier this week. He said that families want to see as many games as possible and a lot of them don't have the money to travel a great distance out of state. I know as a father of a college football prospect in Texas I wouldn't want to travel to Pac country to watch half of his games. On top of that traveling great distances for half of his games wouldn't be good for his academics given the time commitment. I think Stoop(id)s is full of crap if he said this.

            • Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

              • Arkansas is not Oklahoma.

Come to think of it, Texas isn't even Oklahoma.

But while you are talking to Arkansas, ask them how much money they are making and how stable the SEC is these days.

Great point. All that matters in college football is the money

I don't usually jump into the fray when it comes to piling on Babs but if she hasn't just admitted in the past few weeks that Texas recruits are a must for OU recruiting...

(To be fair, I agree with her that Stoops is getting his marching orders from the puppet master though. What game he's playing and to what end is anyones guess though)

This is overblown if not total nonsense.

If OU goes to the PAC, Texas recruits will dry up? Why?

Traditional superpowers will still be able to recruit their areas.

There are a load of sucky schools based in Texas that have had access to Texas recruits and yet the programs still suck.

Heck, for all this talk about Texas, the Longhorns have had access to Texas recruits all this time and yet they go 30+ years between national titles. Yawn.

                          • Winning means home ticket sales, postseason $, and happy donors writing checks.

Say its all about the money if you like, but don't say its all about the TV money.

Leaving a prime recruiting area behind would be short-sighted, unless Babs is correct that Oklahoma can recruit Texas without actually playing games there. Which I am so ungentlemanly as to disbelieve.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

OU can always recruit Dallas as Oklahoma is a suburb of the DFW metroplex.

                              Beyond that, no chance.

If you listen to Stoops, he basically acknowledges he doesn't really believe what he's saying and has marching orders.

If not for how poorly disguised the OU hand is right now, I would have thought pac16 was a cinch but given how much they protest, I think Big12 sticks together and BYU is most certainly invited (again).
