Is BYU truly in a position to play hard to get? That is what Washington Coug is saying.

Ok, I'll explain. I definitely think they're in a position to play hard to get for certain things. That doesn't mean BYU will or can get everything they ask for, but it's all about leveraging everything you can. We have no idea where the discussions could be at. It could be that the BIG XII came to BYU and said we will send you invite right now if you drop BYUTV, ESPN, The WCC and Sunday no play rules. BYU says let us think about it and leaks to Katz that they're happy where they are. There's no need to rush into this. If needed BYU can stay independent. Is it the best scenario? No. If the BIG XII needs BYU bad enough, they will make concessions. My guess is that BYU won't get everything they won't offered to them, but they do have leverage. Other than Notre Dame, who is not coming to the Big XII at least at this time, BYU is the best option out there.

Sure, I was just throwing out an example. The point is the BIG XII could have come to BYU with some items that BYU couldn't live with. The thinking of the BIG XII is that BYU needs to be in a BCS conference. BYU leaks to the press that they're happy where they are. Hopefully the BIG XII sees BYU as an asset and makes exceptions that work for BYU.

I'm not as convinced as you are of BYU's negotiating position. That said, I hope the Big 12 (again if an invitation was in fact made) was at least respectful in their initial invitation.
