You must not be a student of the daddy's posts. He loves traditions when it allows him to mock someone else or sound superior in his knowledge of the tradition. Since you proved wiser than him on this tradition it doesn't matter.

I imagine something like this happening. I don't think BYU wants to burn its bridges with the WCC just in case the Big-12 does blow up and they need to go back to independence and to you know... keep their word.. BYU goes immediately in football and then after 2013 they fully integrate.

I can be a fan of tradition in general without having to enjoy every single individual tradition.

For example, I am a fan of the one of the oldest traditions in college football: Sooners losing their bowl game. That doesn't mean that OU will lose every bowl game, though. And I'm ok with that.

The wcc knew from the word go that there was a distinct possibility byu would end up elsewhere. So they put a clause in their K for a fat sum of money and will nod and smile when byu hands them a pile of cash to leave.

I wonder why all sports wouldn't move over at once? Is there precedent for that in conference realignment? I understand ND does this with the Big East, but that was NDs choice. The Big East would have been more than thrilled to take the football team, too.

Exactly. BYU isn't filling some void for the WCC. The WCC was the same before and will be the same after. The WCC entered this agreement with eyes wide open and readily accepted us because they knew it was likely nothing more than a big payday.

They also got a much larger ESPN contract due to BYU being in their conference. WCC wins in this regardless of whether BYU stays or goes.

It gives them a year or two of increased exposure and perhaps they hope make others aware of the level of hoops SMC and Gonzaga have put out the past few years. I think the conference thinks it is more than just Gonzaga and BYU could help to beat that drum, if for only one year. The WCC will get benefit out of the relationship and there is no doubt it knew from day that BYU was going to slip out in the night. It is hoping that BYU is a good tipper and that it is willing to pay for something better than an economy Motel 6 for the nite!
