I was just about to post that.

We're now down to BYU. Or perhaps "up" is a better word, because the idea of adding the Cougars has a whole lot of up-side to it.

BYU is a "name" school in several sports, and has excellent facilities. The Cougars also started their own network long before The Longhorn Network was a twinkle in Dodds' eye.

The big twelve needs to convince notre dame to come no matter the cost. Let them have NBC. Also get to twelve teams and only play teams in your division. That would leave ND with seven games they can schedule on their own. If other teams want to schedule inter-divisional games they can do that on their own. just do every thing in your power to give ND the flexibility they need.

It is a really long shot, but if you listen to Deloss, it sounds like ND is a possibility.

      • There is also this to remember: BYU already conforms to the reforms the NCAA proposed at its summit last week.

Numerous observers believe the NCAA's suggested changes were aimed directly at cleaning up the SEC.

Does anyone know what these reforms are?

A practical offerring could look something like this:

          Domer Division:

          Mizzou
          Kansas
          Kst
          Iowst
          ND
          Houston

          Bevo Division:

          Okst
          Okla
          Tex
          Ttech
          Bayor
          byu

The Domer divisions gets a game in houston every other year. Or convince TCU to stay and move Iowast to the Bevo and put TCU in Domer (Removing byu for TCU). That guarantees a game in Texas for Every team in the conference.

Pretty sure it's the APR increase.

It's a significant change from the APR structure now in place. Currently, teams with a four-year APR of 925 or below face penalties like loss of scholarships. Only if a team falls below a 900 and is therefore considered a chronic under-performer will it face "historical penalties" including postseason bans.

Now the NCAA will do away with the 900 cutoff, forcing all teams to raise their academic standards or sit on the sidelines in the postseason. Under the new standards, 12 teams would not have qualified for this year's NCAA tournament, including Ohio State and Syracuse.

                Um...I choose the other one.

I don't think OU and Texas would like those divisions either.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

                        • From a practical perspective, the Domers can't afford to hold out much longer. How many BCS bowls have they played in the past several years? How many has UConn played in? Or Utah, for that matter.

Being in a conference seems to be the easier path for the Irish, even with Notre Dames favorable BCS qualification clause.

Why wouldn't ou or texaas like those divisions? Basically they are replacing a&m with byu and nebraska and colorado with notre dame and houston.

Not to mention only 5 conference games so they can schedule 7 other games to make $$. Seems like texas would love that arrangement. They win the red river shootout they basically play ND

I thought that last year before Nebraska joined the Big Ten - Notre Dame needs to be in a conference - more money and an easier path. Apparently, the Irish relish their football independence. The problem with the Big 12 is that if the Irish do join a conference, I think it will be the Big Ten. And Missouri is sure to follow if they are invited.

I don't believe ND will ever join the Big Ten. The religious bigotry that kept them out in the first place, according to ND administrators, will result in ND never playing in the Big Ten. ND is more likely to join the Big East of the Big XII than the Big Ten, in my opinion. Religious people have long memories for persecution.
