I didn't realize that the Big 12's TV contract was with Fox. (how could I really? I mean...does anyone really watch Fox sports? ) I don't know the inner workings of these things, but I wonder what ESPN might do to prevent a BYU invite. It seems to me that the last thing they would want to do is lose a contract to their competitor, no?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I think that Texas has a contract with ESPN too. I have a feeling BYU would be able to honor its contract with ESPN and the BIG12 would be fine with it.

Tier 2 is Fox contract. Tier 1 is ESPN and Tier 3 is open to sell for each school.

As many on here know, I'm a huge fan of Fox Sports. If BYU gets into the Big 12, that would only be a plus in my book.

I saw an ad on the FX network the other day. Apparently FX is going to be showing some of these games, supposedly some of the more high profile games. I don't really understand why that's necessary, since FSN is so easily obtainable on one the channels ranging from 6357-7234 on Dish and 5212-5672 on DirecTV. You just have to pick the right channel, it's the one where they're not playing instrumental musik versions of Hall & Oates songs.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'm not sure his sources out of College Station are as good because I don't recall him reporting in advance that Texas A&M wasn't about to go to the west coast.

I just don't see the SEC blowing up the Big 12 and the ACC to get to 16 teams.
I agree. It seems Chip Brown has some good sources at UT. Outside of Austin he is just passing on info from other "insiders".

I think the Big 12 really needs to consider expanding back to 12 teams especially if TAMU goes to the SEC. If the SEC is poaching in Big 12 country maybe the Big 12 should be looking deep in SEC country. For example, maybe UCF. They have something like 58,000 students, a top-20 media market, and their football program has been doing well in conference USA lately. Maybe the Big 12 could also get another Florida team as well like USF or even Miami or FSU (raid the ACC).

So coach, are you saying that espn gets first priority and Fox has rights to what's left?

ESPN has a contract with the Big 12 and is the partner with UT on the LHN. ESPN could just change their contract with BYU to something like the LHN for some of BYU's home games.

Interview with TAMU's new chancellor, John Sharp:

TT:What do you think they should do about this SEC conference realignment issue?

Sharp: I have to talk to you as an Aggie on that. I think it’s in the best interest of A&M and in the best interest of the state of Texas that A&M pursue the SEC as vigorously as they can. The reason I think that is, No. 1, we’ve got a lot of good things to export from the state of Texas, and it wouldn’t hurt the state of Texas to export those things to the East Coast and Florida and things like that.

No. 2, I think A&M would make more money. All legislators I know have been encouraging universities to do everything they possibly can to generate more income so they can use fewer tax revenues to do that. I believe certainly a move to the SEC would do that.

I haven’t talked to the board about it, so I’m giving you today my personal opinion. It has nothing to do with the Big 12, nothing to do with the University of Texas, Longhorn Network and all that. It’s simply, I think it’s good for the state of Texas to show our wares all across the United States, different television networks and things like that, publicity is not bad. A&M is going to make a lot of money in the process.

As a former student, I am enthusiastically for it. I await instructions from the board.
Given what TAMU has to export they might be a good fit in the SEC. I'll give him that, I guess. But I don't think TAMU is going to the SEC make more money and there is really more money in the SEC to be had. Especially if they have to fork over a huge exit fee. A&M is hell bent to get out from of the shadow of UT and is willing to trade it for the shadow of LSU, Bama, and Auburn.

Opinion piece from Tulsa saying BYU and TCU should be the first choices for the Big 12 to add.

                                But this line killed me:

Many people caution you that BYU is "Texas Lite" when it comes to arrogance and being a conference's diva. Many MWC members reportedly were not sad when the Cougars declared their independence.
