With the exception of 2011, they really haven't recruited that poorly. I think that Sherman is a really good fit there, though this year is a barometer for long-term success.

Between R.C. Slocum's final years and the Francione debable, the 2000's were not kind. But, I actually think they are (were) poised to be a player in the Big12 over the next few years.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

The NCAA could fix this if they would take the time. There are way too many D1 teams and the super conference is a way to address this. The fact that the WAC did not just go away and started to add more non D1 teams just adds worthless teams to the pile.

The NCAA has no control. The 4 Super conferences will just leave the NCAA.

There is a hell of a lot worse red tape leaving the NCAA than having new by laws written for the 4 super conferences.

Agree. BYU doesn't have a lot to worry about in the Big 12 as the order at the top is now set. The past problems with the Big 12 was when that was still being determined, or more accurately, Nebraska realizing it was no longer an Alpha dog. But make no mistake, Texas did throw its weight around when the Big 12 was formed and this resulted in Nebraska welcoming the Big Ten.

I think Texas A&M sees itself in similar shoes with a move to the SEC. How does one compete with the largest revenue producer and most profitable sports program in the nation? The Sooners have it figured out, the Huskers and Aggies are hoping to figure it out in different conferences.

                    Such as?

I'm genuinely curious. Isn't participation in the NCAA a voluntary thing? If you get enough schools to leave, then what's the down side?

Is the worry politicians get involved?

Orangebloods.com: House hearing on Texas A&M and the SEC slated for Tuesday has been "postponed" because SEC took no action on A&M Sunday.

                        • For the sake of conjecture, lets assume the following:

                          1. BYU gets an B12 invite (football only, or whatever, doesn't matter) and accepts.

                          2. The confererence, already on shaky ground, folds for any number of reasons. For fun lets say that Texas/OU/whoever else bolts for what is to become the PAC-16.

In this (or a similar) scenario, what happens to BYU's ESPN deal? I am in full agreement that a stable B12 agreement is superior to our current arrangement. But with all its uncertainty, I get the feeling that independence might be the more certain of the two options right now. It only works because ESPN is on our side. Do they welcome us back with open arms if we bolt only to have things fall apart?

I think ESPN has a vested interest in keeping the Big 12 together.

                            • Isn't it pretty much the general consensus here that BYU is going to wind up in the Big 12 or another BCS conference sooner or later? That's what I think will happen. I recognize that SU will now come after me with a club, but reality is reality. The rivalry could be cooler than ever if that happens. An annual PAC-12/Big 12 grudge match....
