I also believe those who are most adamant about staying independent either watch the games on TV or buy the $15 tickets.
But staying independent will keep the ticket prices low for these folks. The Idaho St/BYU tickets are starting at $4/ea on stubhub.

Brigham Young is a widely speculated target if the Aggies leave, though it's uncertain how the Cougars would view a shift in direction as they enter their first year as an independent in football and membership in basketball and other sports in the West Coast Conference.

Beebe declined to address specific schools.

Asked if those deliberations were underway, he said, "Not in an official manner, but it's going to start."

There has to be some truth to this if they mention us twice.

              WSJ on the Aggies...

Texas A&M has a devoted fan base, an impressive home-field crowd and a proud (if dated) legacy of defensive football. But please: The SEC is without question the deep end of the pool in college football. Its teams have won the past five national titles.

The Aggies? They rank 24th all-time in winning percentage, one spot ahead of Fresno State. Since the Big 12 began play in 1996, Texas A&M has won it once, in 1998. The Aggies have played in one Bowl Championship Series postseason game, that same season. From 1999 on, the Aggies' record against major-conference competition is 49-64.

Granted, Texas A&M does appear to be on an upswing under fourth-year coach Mike Sherman: The Aggies went 9-4 last season and are ranked ninth in the preseason coaches' poll. Still, Texas A&M lost last year to rival Arkansas, an SEC member, for the second straight season, and the Aggies were handily beaten by LSU in the Cotton Bowl. If this program couldn't get traction in the Big 12, how would it do playing LSU, Arkansas and Alabama every season in the SEC West?

We still may find out, but at least not after a bit more reflection.

Based on your past record of calling future events, it looks like it is 50/50 nothing will happen.

Don't be so sure. I rarely claim insider knowledge on anything (because I don't have it), but I lived in College Station for many years am a couple steps from some very connected people. Even though my loyalities are staunchly blue, I always seem to know more about the maroon.

The SEC wants into Texas. It just wants aTm to have a partner. Of course, as you all know these things change every 15 minutes. Even if it doesn't happen immediately, or even this year, I'd be very very suprised if it doesn't happen.

With all that said, I CANNOT fathom why TAMU wants to do this. I realize they are sick of being in T.U.'s shadow, but this is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If aTm does end up leaving, can we please start calling its old conference the BIG-8? At 9 teams, it's a more accurate name than "Big-12".

Because finishing 10th in a 14 team SEC is going to give a boost to recruiting from a team that usually finishes 4th or 5th in the Big XII.

Agreed. I feel the same way about the Big 10.
