The speculation is UT, OU, and ND would be the anchors. They would invite some of the Big 12 teams: Tech, OSU, Kansas, KSU, and maybe Mizzou. And backfill the rest with any of ND's friends (e.g. Pitt, BC, etc) that want to come and BYU. It short, with TAMU leaving it gives Texas a chance to kick out Baylor and ISU (and maybe Mizzou).Originally posted by Moliere View PostA two-team conference? Would that work?

I was teaching a workshop today in Austin and mentioned to the crowd that BYU would love to be invited to the Big 12. All I got was silence and a bunch of "WTF?" looks.

would they be trying to get 12 teams so they could have a playoff? If they invite some of the Big 12 members, Notre Dame, Pitt and BYU it only makes a 9 team conference max.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostThe speculation is UT, OU, and ND would be the anchors. Yes, the Orangebloods seem to love BYU. I think it has something about the 2009 OU game and messing up Bradford's season.Originally posted by YOhio View PostDoes the speculation really include BYU?
Actually if you think about teams that BYU has scheduled with for the future... they include both ND and UT. Notre Dame added a series with UT recently as well. It really comes down to ESPN investing into these teams, IMO.
Some Orangeblood comments about adding BYU...
The conference loses A&M and is down to 9 members. I think it all comes down to what ESPN/Fox will do.
Pay the same money to 9 schools. No change.
If not then the conference may have to add a member or maybe three.
I would approach TCU, BYU and try to make a run at Notre Dame.
If Texas brings TCU it would generate good will with a future conference member. This is good considering we are the bad guys to everyone right now.
If BYU and Notre Dame come in it would bring independent minded schools to pair with a more independent minded Texas.
I know that everyone will say two things:
1. What TVs does a school bring? I don't think that is as big considering the networks want to hold the Big 12 together.
2. Notre Dame won't come? If ESPN helps pull them and Notre Dame sees that ESPN hands out $300 million deals to the "right" school. The NBC deal is up at some time.BYU would be an upgrade in every respect.
I never really wanted to lose aggie before, not that I would particularly miss them. But they are getting tedious and the idea is becoming increasingly appealing.
One thing is for certain, they will get their rear-ends royally spanked if they do go to the SEC. That would be entertaining."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
