Yes, I am. I was an abused child, in a way. I have long since forgiven LaVell and BYU, but I cannot do anything about the karma that is now coming back to bite the Cougars.

I am not taking credit for PACmas. You're less lovable when you ooze bitterness this way.

      • Here are some interesting thoughts on the MWC pushing for BCS AQ status.

The BCS formula consists of three criteria:

        1) The ranking of the highest-ranked team in the final BCS Standings each year (if a conference does not have a team in the final BCS Standings, then its highest-ranked team is determined by the conference member that has the highest average ranking in the computer rankings used in the BCS Standings),

        2) The final regular-season rankings of all conference teams in the computer rankings used by the BCS each year.

        3) The percentage of the number of conference teams in the top 25 of the final BCS Standings each year.

A conference will become the seventh automatic qualifier if it finishes among the top six conferences in both No. 1 and No. 2 and if its ranking in No. 3 is equal to or greater than 50 percent of the conference with the highest ranking in No. 3.

Further, a conference will be eligible to apply to the Presidential Oversight Committee for an exemption if it, 1) finishes among the top six in both No. 1 and No. 2 and if its ranking in No. 3 is equal to or greater than 33.3 percent of the conference with the highest ranking in No. 3.

        OR

        2) If it finishes among the top seven in either No. 1 or No. 2 and among the top five in the other, and if its ranking in No. 3 is equal to or greater than 33.3 percent of the conference with the highest ranking in No. 3.

With the addition of Boise State, the Mountain West Conference as constituted for 2011 easily meets criteria No. 1 and No. 3. In fact the BSU for Utah swap actually gives the MWC a bump since BSU’s computer ranking the past two years has averaged a #7 ranking, while Utah has averaged a ranking of 14th.
Personally, since I live in the shadow of JerryWorld, I wouldn't mind this:

Fourth, the BCS is considering adding the Cotton Bowl to its line-up. It would not be surprising to see another bowl, such as the Holiday, be added in the future as well. This would allow a place at the BCS table for the MWC and increase opportunities for all BCS schools.

        • I'll put this here. From ESPN Insider Rumor Central:

The man who could cause a playoff

The Oklahoman's Jenni Carlson writes that Mark Shurtleff, the relatively unknown state attorney general in Utah, could be the person who causes a college football playoff.

Shurtleff is in the process of getting his case against the legality of the BCS prepared to go before the Department of Justice, which could take on the case if it feels as though anti-trust law has been violated. If not, Shurtleff seems confident enough in his being backed by other states that he'll continue to pursue his mission.

For supporters of a college football playoff system, this should come as good news. However, it will be interesting to see if Utah's recent move to the Pac-10 -- which will greatly increase its chances of making it to the BCS national championship game -- has any effect on Shurtleff's efforts. If the issue is no longer as important to Utes fans, he may not pursue the case with the same intensity.
The national media has little clue as to what actually goes on in Utah.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I say go Shurtleff! Let's get a playoff and make the college football champion legitimate.

Yeah, since when has the University of Utah had anywhere near the impact on the state's public policy that BYU has there?

While last week's Utah accendancy so obviously makes BYU a dying brand, I would expect some to still care about the school's future prospects, at least for the next few years. Maybe even some politically influential people that actually live there.

So was the little dog and pony show that Holmoe, Whitt, and Shurtleff did for the press to say that the Utah Attorney General's office is not letting down on pursuing the anti-trust suit? Or was it an attempt to force some conference hand in getting BYU in an AQ BCS conference as well? Or was it to let Holmoe ramble in cryptic code to give BYU fans some hope so they won't jump off buildings?

I think it's Holmoe covering all of his bases. If the status quo remains, BYU and the MWC still has access issues with the BCS.

                    • All this defense of Holmoe reminds me a lot of when people were defending Crowton after it had become obvious that he could scarcely find his way to work in the morning or get dressed on his own.

Or like Ute fans defending Boylen.

You remind me of Lieutenant Dan when he was in a total funk and everything was seen through a negative prism.

or win a BCS Championship? Crowton was not a great head coach but the guy knows his football.

I don't know Holmoe personally nor have I ever met him or even seen him but the guy seems to work hard at his job and BYU sports have been on the upswing since he became AD. I know you aren't villifying him or attacking his character like SU did, but Holmoe is not in an easy negotiating position so I think I'll cut him some slack when it comes to conference expansion.

Crowton had three losing seasons under his belt. What is the comparable performance from Holmoe that brings this comparison to your mind?
