My anecdotal evidence is this: the LGBT community's actions towards my alma mater is hateful.
I think the policies are sad, out-of-touch, and at the very least cause a lot of people a lot of hurt.

    • I like Baylor's new policy. It still expects chastity and fidelity in marriage, and just leaves off talking about homosexuality altogether. Why do we have to get all detailed -n- stuff?

Baylor will be guided by the biblical understanding that human sexuality is a gift from God and that physical sexual intimacy is to be expressed in the context of marital fidelity. Thus, it is expected that Baylor students, faculty and staff will engage in behaviors consistent with this understanding of human sexuality.

Thankfully, there is a vast difference between the church's position and the way members treat people in the LGBTQ community.
Sad that kid killed himself. Feel free to blame me if it makes you feel better. I'm a Mormon and as such am directly responsible for his death by tacitly approving my religion's discriminatory policies. As such I'm a murderer and my team of choice should never be allowed to join a conference.

Well either that or the kid had issues with a chemical imbalance or depression that would have led him down the path of suicide whether gay or straight.

Yes I read it. I think you're being overly dramatic about this issue so I went with some drama of my own.

For the record I'm moderate when it comes to gay issues.

I'm pretty moderate as well, even liberal from some people's perspective. But I wonder how many like minded people will be alienated by the LGBT community when they try to play politics with their football team. I'm pretty ticked. I'll likely calm down and put this in perspective later, but for now I'm ready to fight.

Yeah, they leave out the details and just refer to the Baptist Faith and Message of 1963...

It also says: "This policy will be interpreted by the University in a manner consistent with the Baptist Faith and Message of 1963." That's quite interesting, as unlike the BFM revision in 2000 – which was much more conservative – BFM 1963 makes no mention of homosexuality, though it does define marriage as "the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime".

Maybe BYU could just refer to the Church Handbook of Instructions?

This could easily backfire on the LGBT letter writers. It would have flown in the P12 but it will have a much harder time in the B12.

                    • Maybe this question should be asked in another thread that talked about young people and suicide. If so feel free to move it JL.

My question is I think there is a tragic suicide rate among HS kids. Any studies done on what these kids have in common. Any study out there on what percentage are gay? There may be various reasons.

The best part is many of you who want to pretend to being all liberal, tolerant and openminded won't even be inclined to feign offense when the more redneck members of this venue (i.e. me - my favorite person) decides to drop a gratuitous reference here or there. Goodwill will be lost. To quote Alex P. Keaton's milquetoast father in Tremors: "you broke into the wrong damn rec room, didn't ya bud!"

Adopted. As the NBC gymnastics commentator noted, the 208 may be Mom and Dad, but they are NOT his parents!
