Neuheisel: UCLA Should Be Interested In Big 12

    [...]Neuheisel said:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see UCLA say, "You know what? This deal with this USC thing? We’re gonna go and be our own guy, rather than always tied to the school here in Los Angeles." It wouldn’t shock me at all. I don’t have any inside information. I’m just saying from outside looking in.

UCLA just left Adidas for cash. They went to Under Armour. Right? If there were a reason to do it...If all of a sudden...and you take Los Angeles and put it into the Big 12 market where Texas and football are king, it would have a huge impact.

Hasn't the Longhorn network been a disaster for ESPN? I don't think a network devoted to one school, unless self-defense funded and produced, will ever be done again.

I'd be interested to see if someone could get a profitable streaming thing done.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

BTW, did you catch Colin Cowherd this morning?

The Vine says nothing, why does the Pac 10 have to worry? If you control Southern California and the Bay Area, you don't have anything to worry about.

Depends on your perspective. I don't think UT has any complaints.

Could be worse... Your conference network could be a flop:

Well, for starters, there might be an immediate increase in TV money. "But what about Pac-12 Networks?" you ask. Both UCLA and USC have taken a financial hit due to the creation of the Pac-12 Networks.

The inability of Pac-12 Networks to secure a distribution deal with DirecTV almost a full year since AT&T, a conference partner, assumed control of the satellite giant is a telling story.

Last year, in the wake of the announcement of AT&T’s purchase of DirecTV, everyone thought the conference would make an announcement at the Pac-12 Football Media Days that they had secured a carriage agreement. Yet, a year has passed and the biggest news about Pac-12 Networks at Media Days last week was that Twitter has signed on as a distribution partner. Let’s just hope you like watching your sports 140 characters at a time.

One of the biggest assumptions everyone seems to make regarding the finances of the UCLA Athletic Department is that the department should be flush with cash because of the Pac-12 Networks creation and that’s just not the case.

I guess you didn't hear about the rams moving back to LA? The bay area is owned by the raiders and 9'ers.

                • UNLV imagining a bid? Other than not having money, tradition or support, it would be a great addition.

"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

                    • Geography not a concern:

The Big 12 seems open to a wide net. Oklahoma president David Boren, the chairman of the conference's board of directors, listed six qualifications but omitted geography.
Bowlsby suggested a school's "electronic footprint" was a more pressing concern than its geographic footprint.
                      Football only not likely:

How about football-only members, perhaps opening the door to a BYU and Boise State combo? Bowlsby said it's "probably feasible" before adding that it's "probably not our first choice."

I don't understand the context. Who is Ralph Russo, one of those guys like that uofutah fan that does FOIAs for BYU related communications with state schools? It all seems incomplete. CSU pres needs to use spellcheck.

So much of it talks about what the schools plan to do, how much they are going to spend and expand, how they're going to get better. Kind of like, "Look, I know we're crap, but we have plans to be better crap."
                        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I warn you that if you do so unworthily you're inviting condemnation to your soul. Welcome back, though!

Love the CSU email. Like it had never occurred to anyone to do exactly what every P5 conference adding a G5 member has already done-- including the big 12.
