The Big 12 expansion groundswell

Don't overlook some of the nuggets in Chip's news: There is a lot of love for BYU from ESPN. ESPN will be paying for a big chunk of the Big 12's party and the leading candidate to be the Big 12 commissioner is Burke Magnus, the head of college programming at ESPN. Of course, it really seems to come down to what the BCS does that will drive any future conference expansion. It does seem that the major conferences (with maybe the exception of the SEC) are warming up to the idea of a four team BCS playoff. IMO, if that happens conferences will be expanding to 16 teams and ND and BYU will be heading to the Big 12."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Chippy could be right about this going into later in the yr...that BCS dynamic is far too important. The only issue is that if the B12 picks up the ESPN guy, ESPN wants super conferences and they'll expand quickly to be able to go head to head with the SEC in terms of importance.
look, BYU is in, either way, because I think supers are coming. The only question is if those dipshits in the PAC12 wake up to this reality and drop the bigotry to get BYU before the B12.
Holmoe has ALWAYS been consistent with me that he thinks the PAC people would one day relent on the mormon issue...

So let's see....yesterday there were several articles, including some linked in this thread, about the new TV deal. KC links a post to a fan message board outlining BYUs alleged catbird position.
Today, Chip Brown breaks old news as new news.
All we need to do is hear from the Texas legislature now and it will be like old times.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Chip actually posted that yesterday. I am just getting caught up on my longhorn news being on spring break with the kids.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSo let's see....yesterday there were several articles, including some linked in this thread, about the new TV deal. And the Texas Legislature doesn't meet this year (only odd years) so no problem there."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

WTH? The legislature only meets every other year? How can you keep your death and abortion polices current (to 17th century standards)?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostChip actually posted that yesterday. I am just getting caught up on my longhorn news being on spring break with the kids.

If it goes to a Super Conf BYU probably wouldn't play Texas every other year. It would probably be every 3-5 years at Royal.Originally posted by Viking View PostThe idea of going to Royal Stadium every other year to play the 'Horns gives me chills that only making money can equal.Get confident, stupid

The MWC was better than Indy, my point was more that Viking doesn't need to get his money chills at the thought of being in Royal every other year.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postyeah I don't love super conferences but it is still miles better than indy.Get confident, stupid

Was he there this year -the one time we all knew long in advance it was for sure happening? If so, he should have joined us at the Salt Lick. As benevolent a group as we all were, I'm sure we would have let him pick up the tab.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostThe MWC was better than Indy, my point was more that Viking doesn't need to get his money chills at the thought of being in Royal every other year.

Texas will argue it doesn't want to lose an hour when it travels if FSU/Clem come. THey'll be in our division of the B12.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostIf it goes to a Super Conf BYU probably wouldn't play Texas every other year. It would probably be every 3-5 years at Royal.
If it's two distinct divisions, then we'll see them every other year. If it's a RR format, then yes, 3-5 yrs

I doubt he was there. No offense, but I have 30-year+ friendships in TX that are a tad more important than my nerdy affiliation here. I only know a couple of folks here. I'm sure you guys are great dudes, all (even Fusnik) but I have blood brothers there that take precedence!Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostWas he there this year -the one time we all knew long in advance it was for sure happening? Were you at the game? I tried to suggest (rather uncleverly),what DDD assumed (rather bluntly) that you weren't in town the one time you knew for sure they would be there.Originally posted by Viking View PostNo offense, but I have 30-year+ friendships in TX that are a tad more important than my nerdy affiliation here. Regardless, it is a great stadium, we were treated fantastic by longhorn fans (except one comment by a campus crusader, in front of the bookstore, about "magic underwear"), and I would absolutely love to go back. And even would enjoy sharing a Coke with you and your clan.
