  • So my buddy from Rutgers informed me why the Big 12 made this statement. The BE was threatening to file a Lawsuit against Big 12 because the statement from Nienas was prior to the exit time for WVU and would then constitute tampering with the BE conference etc. So Big 12 clarified with this statement in order to stay out of trouble with any lawsuits..

WVU is not going to get out of this so easy. Many of the other schools are chomping at the bit for lawyers to look deep into Discovery on WVU and it won't be pretty..

We'll se if it ever gets that far..

    • I just don't see how WVU wins this "court case" (?) and gets out of the Big East early, Syracuse and Pitt aren't able to, so why should WVU? Unless they are using TCU as an example of who left early without the Big East caring, but technically they were never IN the Big East.

      • The rumor is Texas Tech will be playing UT on Thanksgiving in 2012. I was hoping they would play TCU at the cotton bowl or something.

I'd really like to see UT/ND start up something on thanksgiving.

            • Why is ND and Texas trying to create a rivalry? It just doesn't appeal to me despite them being big national schools. Texas vs TCU on Thanksgiving could be a great rivalry game IMO with TCU playing at Cowboys Stadium.

              • I find it a little interesting that the Big 12 is willing to take WVU, a school that really is no better a draw (and is worse academically, if that matters) over BYU, even with all of their uncertainty. Every school in the B12 must have holes in their schedule pending this mess getting sorted out, all while BYU stands on the sideline, ready and willing at a moment's notice to jump in and fill them. All over Tier 3 broadcasting rights? Sunday play? Really?

                Something's fishy.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

The holes are only there if mizzu leaves before next season, otherwise....

Well, there's that too, but is WVU contingent on them leaving? If not, everyone needs to leave a spot for them or who are they gonna play? I guess if the offer is contingent on them leaving, they just fill Mizzou's spot, but there's still the issue of WVU getting released from the B12. That doesn't seem a given, and if it is why doesn't Pitt have something to say about that?

Plug in BYU for WVU and all this timing and lawsuit baggage disappears. Are we that toxic?

I'll answer on behalf of SU.

We're beyond toxic; BYU is radioactive.

The WVU invite is not contingent on anything. They are in. It is just a matter of when. If they can't join next year, then the B12 will force Mizzou to stay so that they have 10 teams. If WVU can work out a settlement with the Beast to play in the B12 next year, then Mizzou can be released. Either way, they will have 10 teams next year. It isn't really that fishy.

Thanks for saving him the effort. And me the broken record. I'm guessing he'll comment anyway though. In 10...9...8...

But still...scheduling plans for 10 teams. That's no small feat. WVU has a set of home and away games scheduled right now. They can probably plug things in, but it has to coincide with 9 other teams and their home field scheduling. Sure, it can be worked out, but it's the kind of thing that needs to be nailed down...well...now. And remember, Mizzou has a whole schedule to work out. They're going to want an answer...well...now.

BYU is really the easiest logistical thing out there, and we still can't get a date. Fishy was maybe the wrong word, but it really makes me wonder what's really going on here--on both sides.
