So now Big12 inclusion is out of BYU's hands. Interesting insights.

Also, three people have recommended that article on Google+, which has to be some sort of record.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostThe best part about that post is The Moose's Whistle has the only comment."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I'll be the first to admit that I had never ever considered the author's point. I was always of the opinion that it was entirely up to BYU, and that BYU was just waiting to weigh options before choosing which P5 was most deserving. I kind of assumed they would wait for a couple of years of playoffs and then choose the conference that was most consistently represented there.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe responses here to the article are so typical of CS: attacking the author instead of his argument. I think he makes a really valid point. Flame away.
It is disconcerting to learn that there may be aspects of this plan outside of BYU's control.

I'll argue that Big 12 expansion has always been out of BYU's hands. Even if BYU were 12-0 this season, the points made in the article still stand. Any committee is going to take a one-loss 'Bama, Ohio St., FSU., and Oregon who win their CCG over an undefeated BYU and over a one-loss TCU or Baylor who don't play a CCG. And Oregon will have good cause to complain if they lose again to Arizona and either TCU or Baylor gets the plaoff invite instead. Too bad Minnesota didn't win the Big Ten western division so they could play a re-match against Ohio St. so possibly both the Ducks and Buckeyes get knocked out of the playoffs due to a CCG loss in a re-match game that TCU and Baylor don't have to play.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe responses here to the article are so typical of CS: attacking the author instead of his argument. The Big 12 won't expand until not playing a CCG hurts Texas and/or OU. I'm not sure if Baylor and TCU being left out of the playoffs is enough to do it. It's always been my hope that this would happen to Texas and OU so the Big 12 would expand and include BYU. But expansion has always been out of BYU's hands.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

memphis and cincinnati are in, announcement to be made just after March madness
http://www.bcsnn.com/aac/777-big-12-...-bearcats.html
http://www.espn929.com/johnmartin/Na...ig-12/20457311Some times you just need to have a little patience and that has been the case with conference realignment lately. It was reported back in early October that the Big 12 had settled on expansion and Memphis had joined the conversation as possible teams to join the Power 5 league. The hiccups that were holding Cincinnati back from getting picked up have been addressed since then with the announcement that UC Bearcats basketball facilities are getting a major multimillion dollar overhaul in addition to a newly renovated Nippert Stadium.
For a long time, many (including myself) had speculated that the Big 12 would look to UCF or possibly the combination of UCF and USF for a wide Florida footprint to help recruiting and overall exposure. But it looks like the conference wants to help out West Virginia with some regional partners.
It appears that it might be a done deal with the official announcement coming some time around the end of March Madness, according to ESPN Radio in Nashville and this story from ESPN 92.9.
According to a radio host in Nashville on 102.5 the game, the Big 12 — which does not currently have a championship game — is going to add two more teams in the offseason and, according to his information, those two teams will be Cincinnati and Memphis.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
