    lol.

But dont all the sports teams drive to and from the conference games? Surely a factor in expansion is whether there are sufficient gas stations and tourist attractions en route from point to point?

Of course, a person who currently isn't watching the endpoint playing football is more likely to start watching than a person who doesn't currently exist, but let's set that point aside. The more important point is expansion. By moving to the east and bringing in West Virginia, the Big 12 puts FSU, Maryland, Clemson, Cincinnati, Louisville, etc. into play if they ever need to get up to 12, 14, or 16. If they move west with BYU, I suppose Boise, Colorado State, and New Mexico are up for grabs.

Hey Mr Dodds? Ever heard of LAKE POWELL? Yeah, I didn't think so.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I'm surprised that you're struggling with this argument analysis thing. Didn't you just graduate from some law school? Oh, I guess, not yet?

Again, I'm granting that WVU > BYU.

How does BYU's inclusion eliminate FSU/Maryland/Clemson/Cincinnati/Louisville?

Florida State is already concerned about travel costs.

Those travel costs don't get smaller if BYU is in the conference.

East division, West division. Costs go down by dividing into two for the center schools. If they'd go to Morgantown every year, they'll go to Provo every year.

I feel like I'm repeating myself.

FB only is even an option. I'm not nearly as down on WCC as everyone else, although I'd love to get into B12 basketball.

              • Gswaim saying to expect a bombshell on June 1. He believes FSU and Clemson will be announced or at least leaked after big 12 meeting on that date. Pretty specific for the swaimster.

Not fighting you on the distance point. BYU isn't just far away, it's isolated.

Cecil is never going to apologize for completely getting the B12 opportunity dead wrong last year. The BOT will never do so. Instead, if the program dies a slow death (looks more likely) then Tom Holmoe will get the blame.

In other universities, there's donor accountability. Not at BYU. It really stinks.

I advised a kid for the first time in my life who is a prized recruit not to go to play foozball at BYU yesterday because I don't know what the administration is committed to but it's not greatness. I told him to go to Stanford.

I go back to the September moment we had...the B12 was unstable. It needed us. Beebe needed us. We were asking for the world and overplayed our hand.

It's classic short-term thinking: we have a nice contract, supposedly, with ESPN. However, what happens if the program suffers during the term of the contract and it's not renewed? Who will care about the interim $$ if we've put the entire value of the program at risk? It just doesn't seem like long-term thinking. Who cares about $6mm a year if we drop off the face of the planet once the contract ends? It is a HIGH risk, LOW return strategy and I just don't get it...

But it all comes back to accountability...there is NO accountability at BYU...
Well said. We are talking about an organization that can't admit they were wrong about institutionalized racism. Pretty sure football conferences are a non-starter.

That sounds like a BYU concern, not a B12 one.

It's easy to say that when I'm the only one sharing.

More of a BYU concern than a B12 one, to be sure.

As far as the Big12 goes, whatever happened really doesn't matter to me anymore. Were we in? Who turned down who? Was an offer on the table? None of it matters. This is 2012, and the landscape going forward is ever changing. Worrying about he say/she said from last fall doesn't get us out of the independence lifeboat and onto dry land.

You obviously are taking a lot of heat in this thread. Some of it you've brought on yourself, although I think you've made a very honest mea culpa about your predictions. You, as much as anyone, will find peace when we forget the Big12, ditch independence, and join a conference.

There's still plenty of room on this bandwagon! (You may have to sit by Flystripper though.)
