WVU and FSU cancelled their 2012 meeting.

A month ago, the Tallahassee Democrat reported that WVU was trying to get out of its game with Florida State for the 2012 season in anticipation of playing in the Big 12 — and a 9-game conference schedule — meaning WVU would have to throw one of its nonconference games by the wayside.

It seems like WVU and the Big 12 are desperate enough to spend whatever money they need to to make the switch happen this year. But I imagine the BE is going to put up a monster of a fight. They won't be getting Boise or SDSU for the 2012 season.

It seems like WVU and the Big 12 are desperate enough to spend whatever money they need to to make the switch happen this year. But I imagine the BE is going to put up a monster of a fight. They won't be getting Boise or SDSU for the 2012 season.

From what I've been able to gather, this is basically just a game of chicken at this point.

West Virginia knows that the Big East doesn't want to take the risk of going before a judge and asking for an injunction. The Big East knows that West Virginia's incentive to leave in 2012 is strong enough to make them open the wallet up.

WVU will be in the Big 12 this year, and the Big East will work around it (possibly by trying to get Boise to move a year earlier). It's just a matter of how many zeros are on the checks.

No one I know "knows" anything. But we all believe BYU is going to be invited to the B12 soon.

I know Lane Luckie already broke the news about Dodds and his thoughts about Big 12 expansion, but here is an article

After losing Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Texas A&M over the past two years, the Big 12 has added TCU and West Virginia. There was talk of Oklahoma and Texas going to the PAC-12 last year, but Dodds said that if UT ever had to change conferences, the school would look east, not west, for its new home.
Dodds also mentioned that future Big 12 expansion could target Louisville and Brigham Young University. Dodds said that his personal choice would be Notre Dame, and that he is working hard to garner that addition.

The amazing thing about the collective burnout on this issue is that BYU could hold a press conference on Monday announcing its entrance into the B12 and I'm not sure there would be that much interest. Momentum is a funny thing. Dashed hopes are not.

Not much interest on the part of whom? BYU fans would for sure be excited when it became official, but the rumor-filled fall left most pretty jaded with the situation. I'm not sure it would make much noise nationally because of all the expansion fatigue.

Maybe. I'd say the odd of this happening increase drastically once WVU's situation becomes final (soon, right?) and then the rumors will be flying.

Just so everyone remembers, I'm the largest holder of Brigham Young University on the CUF exchange and Lebowski is so short the stock, he's going to have to post the board as collateral to me soon.
