    TH wants the Big 12.
    Of course it's not over.

I thought it was positive too. TH seemed to imply that things are not over (he referred to BIg 12 negotiations as continuing in the present tense) while never making it seem like a move was imminent either. BYU is playing the game, it may be a long game, but they don't want to be left out.

I'm glad he mentioned that Rose wants to compete a the highest levels too. We are a basketball school now, right?

You are so correct; of course it's not over. This has been obvious.

EDIT: It is nice that BYU is finally talking.

          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I am probably reading too much into it, but when he said the Big 12 hasn't offered yet it appeared to be a deliberate statement. I took that as a very encouraging statement.

DM: BYU and the Big 12, were there discussions between the two?

TH: Yes, we've been monitoring the landscape of this conference alignment for sometime and we've had discussions with them and I think with all that's happened in the last little while and now that you see TCU has come in to the Big 12 replacing Texas A&M its probably a good time that we can talk about some of the things we haven't before (sounds like we are talking now to them)

DM: Alright, I got a bunch of them for ya, number one, did the Big 12 invite BYU to join?

TH: Uh, No. The Big 12 conference has not YET invited BYU to be in the conference.

DM: So BYU them has not turned down an invitation?

TH: I think that's probably right, hard to turn down an offer that hasn't been extended

DM: How serious have the negotiations been between the Big 12 and BYU if you don't mind me asking that?

TH: Well it's hard to determine the serious nature, I think that conference alignment is very serious. So we're always trying to do what's best for BYU and we want to make sure that we're involved and keeping abreast of what's almost everyday changing.

DM: Well, there's some that say BYU's a complicated deal, in some of those issues like Sunday play, has that been an issue with the Big 12?

TH: Umm, I don't think it's real complicated, for BYU, I think that everybody knows that BYU is not going to play on Sunday. I think everyone in the country know where BYU stands on that.

DM: BYUtv, where does that sit in, was that a stumbling block?

TH: You know, it's interesting, I..I'm not sure if it is from their standpoint, but I know that ...BYUtv has been a very positive thing. I mean, today, we're going to play a game against Oregon State that's now going to be on TV because of a collaboration with FOX college sports, the Big, uh, the PAC 12, and BYUtv. So I think there's been a lot of misinformation out there about BYUtv but uh, that's for people to speculate on.

DM: Part of it has been that BYU's been very quiet, not negotiating in the public, and the Big 12 for that matter has also stayed very tight lipped, been a lot of rumors obviously, but the two entities involved have not said much.

TH: You know, that's really how we want to do our business. These are very important discussions. We want to make sure they're private, and that they're personal, and that we do not put our business out in front of the nation. I do really appreciate that the Big 12 has kept to their word and the discussions that we've been involved with have been private and very confidential.

DM: Where do you go from here as far a BYU and the future, especially in football, but you've got all of those other sports to consider, what's next?

TH: Well, I'm very excited about BYU football in the future and our athletics. As you know, we've made some pretty bold moves the last little while, to go independent, but for me, I'm competitive, people that know me, know Bronco Mendenhall, that know Dave Rose and the rest of our coaches, that we're going to do everything that we can to stay as competitive as we can. I wanna play at the biggest level that we can.
We've been doing a good job where we been, and we are keeping continuing to look to do our very best.

DM: Couple of quick ones for you, as we wrap up. If this superconference wave starts to happen do you believe BYU will be at the table?

TH: Well we certainly would want to be if it came down to the fact that you had to be in or out, but we're always monitoring and listening to what is going on out there. So, I think that some people have thought that we haven't been involved, we've very much been involved at a lot of different various levels of communication with various conferences. (interesting he said different conferences)

Thank you Tom Holmoe. There was no offer. Now everyone here can stop debating this as if BYU rejected an offer. A discussion about what BYU needs to do to get an offer would comport with true facts and be more constructive.

Of course there wasn't an offer. BYU gave the Big 12 a long list of terms they needed. Of course, the Big 12 said the hell with that and gave TCU a call. It is pretty obvious how it went down.

                            • Having not followed this discussion much, does it occur to anyone else that whether the Big 12 officially offered or not seems like a matter of marketing? They've clearly been in talks, and got to the point where BYU was offering a list of demands and the Big 12 was/is considering them. Doesn't that tell us that the Big 12 is interested, and that there was some sort of overture regarding BYU's admission to the conference? Couldn't we also assume that if not for BYU's lists of demands, they would have an official offer by now?

I don't know, but if this is the case, then SU's braggadocio about BYU's lack of an offer breaks down to nothing more than "Haha! BYU has principles!"

But again, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Is this how it's worked with, for example, Notre Dame? I think not. What has happened is they called up the Notre Dame AD and said, "Come join us." The details would come later.

My point is that BYU would die to go to the Big 12; it's not being hard to get. Independence isn't working. We have a bunch of lore out there but the results we see in terms of scheduling are a big FAIL. Hitler got it exactly right.

BYU doesn't have any principles that would prevent this from happening other than Sunday play, and only because the LDS Church has put itself into a box being so high and mighty on this old fashioned issue.

Face it. The Big 12 hasn't wanted BYU. Stop participating in the BYU spin. It's disgusting.
