Are you saying it is easier to conquer a drunk Beaver? Especially after its been knocked hard a few times? I'm not really sure I can argue that...Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostWell that settles it. Why even play? Who knows maybe for TCU half the Beaver team won't be out until 4 AM celebrating a 21st birthday in Las Vegas, and then not quit once the other team knocks them hard a couple of times.

At least that's a different excuse than they didn't want to be there and it was like the Super Bowl for BYU. Here's to hoping they want to play TCU, nobody is injured or suspended, and everyone gets a good night's sleep. It won't matter though, because after Oregon State goes on to win 3 or 4 in a row, people will be saying they are a different team now and would win a rematch.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostWell that settles it. Didn't BYU use the Super Bowl for Arizona excuse a couple years ago? Maybe not all 17-21 year old kids get up and focused for every game, even the big ones the same way. Just a thought. But it would be devastating for your MWC>P10 theory if one of the best teams in MWC history can't beat the annual 3rd-4th place P10 team. So I understand your defensive sarcasm in responding to me.Get confident, stupid

Just for the record, I don't have a theory that the MWC is better than the PAC-10. I am tired, however, of pundits placing more weight on conference affiliation than a head-to-head matchup. In absence of a head-to-head matchup, speculation is all we have. If the two teams play, the scoreboard is the judge. Seems pretty simple to me.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI mean this sincerely, I love how black and white the world is to you.

I love you, HFNW, but I think it's weird how much of a PAC10 homer you become some times. Bluehair predicts that TCU should handle them pretty easily and you get all weirdly defensive about OSU. This isn't even your team. It's not like he's a MWC homer here--the lines -11.0!At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I said it could be a fun game and he says pathetic "BYU handled them in the Vegas Bowl, or did they have some excuse?".Originally posted by ERCougar View PostAgreed.

It isn't P10 homerism, I think TCU should win the game, I hope they win the game by 30. That doesn't mean I don't think it could be fun, and no I don't think Oregon State cared about playing BYU in one of the 10 worst bowl games when they were 16 minutes away from the best bowl game that isn't the BCS Championship game. A concept that bluehair and you can't seem to grasp.
One game does not make a season, and one matchup does not always show the greater team after the course of a season. BYU was a better team than Tulsa in 2007, they just got the Cougs that night. I don't live in the world where every guy on the roster gets up and plays balls to the wall every second of the game giving us a true and living determination of victory. That isn't the world view I subscribe to.Get confident, stupid

It is strange how....
an extremely conservative move from the volatile/dynamic Big 12 to the extremely stable Big 10 by extremely conservative men, DOCTOR Tom and his impish sidekick Perlman, in a state that craves modesty and stability has led in 3 months to an entirely new business model in college athletics. This brave new world of the powerbrokers in college football wheeling and dealing w/ teevee networks yet retaining wannabees at their convenience may break up old rivalries and create a new class of have nots, but it will also lead to better non-conference schedules, a bigger audience, a more dynamic product and alot more money in the pot for everyone except the cast-offs. And it all started w/ DOCTOR Tom, a man who craves stability more than anything else. Funny how things work out. And all in 3 months. Amazing.
And, mark my word, DOCTOR Tom is gonna be on the loser end of this thing in the end. If this ends up w/ BYU/Notre Dame/UT retaining their own networks yet gaining the benefits of an AQ/Jerryworld Championship game/Big 12 superconference, UNL is gonna be pissed when Iowa State's Big 12 take is bigger than UNL's Big 10 take. And even if it ends up just BYU and some trash for a travel partner (ie CSU/UNM), demographic changes trend toward Iowa State in this game.
Congrats to BYU's administration for seeing the BIG picture and playing the game.

Dallas Morning News: BYU could join Big 12 with the right partner
Once on the free-agent market, BYU's final stop could be the Big 12, with the Cougars joining the league in conjunction with a higher-profile expansion partner -- Arkansas, perhaps -- as part of a reconfigured Big 12 that truly would have a dozen teams at some point in the future.
Let's be clear: BYU, by itself, offers very little to push Big 12 administrators toward expansion. But BYU, in conjunction with another school that resonates loudly on the national college football landscape (read: Arkansas or Notre Dame), could be part of a strategic two-team combo that would recapture the 12-member configuration needed to boost TV revenues by holding a championship game in football.
In recent interviews, Beebe has expressed satisfaction with the Big 12's 10-member league. But he left open the door to future expansion in selected situations.
"If an institution in this region of the country that could bring great value -- more value than what we would have to provide to them -- was to step up and want to be a part of us, then maybe we'd have to look at it," said Beebe, who stressed that conference officials are "certainly not looking at any schools within our five-state geographic region."
Because BYU would expand the Big 12's existing, five-state geographic footprint in future TV negotiations (unlike TCU, which is located in Texas), a case could be made that BYU would be a valuable acquisition if paired with the right expansion partner."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

There are some interesting nuggets in Chip Brown's report today:
The Pac-12 and Big Ten both will have their conference championships which should help make their future contracts more valuable. It seems that the Big 12 will need to add two teams in the next few years as well. With the SEC, ACC and Big East all inked to deals with networks beyond 2016, the Big 12 stands to cash in when its TV deals come up for bid in 2015.
"We will be the only conference inventory for the TV companies to bid on for the next several years," an official at a Big 12 school told Orangebloods.com. "The SEC is under contract until 2022. The ACC and Big East have long-term deals. The Big Ten and Pac-10 will have their long-term conference network deals. That leaves the Big 12 as the only inventory to bid on for quite some time, which should be a good position to be in."
Sources continue to say realignment only heats up again if the Big Ten or Pac-10 decide to add schools. The networks who have contracts with leagues like the SEC, ACC and Big East have told those conferences if they add schools, the contracts will not be redone, sources said.
In other words, if those leagues want to add schools, they'll simply have to divide the money more ways, which dilutes the current schools' payouts.
Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds told Orangebloods.com he'd like to see Notre Dame's sports - other than football - move from the Big East to the Big 12 if the Irish were ever unsatisfied with their current situation. Dodds has said Notre Dame could maintain its independence in football.
Sources say that continues to be "a longshot."
But Notre Dame having the Big 12 as an option to move its other sports would have to be factored by the Big Ten before possibly raiding the Big East, hoping to force Notre Dame to jump into the Big Ten."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Not a big fan of those interesting nuggets as it doesn't lend well to the theory that BYU will be invited to the Big 12. Sigh.Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostThere are some interesting nuggets in Chip Brown's report today:
