So more TV sets tuned into your game against a nationally prominent Bay Area football power than ours against a recent upstart from rural Oregon. Got anything else?At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

If you look at the last 7 years, both BYU and Utah are pretty bad at attracting eyeballs to TV sets. Ignroe it if you will, but the UCLA data IS data. Look, I really dont care that much and I am not going to take time to look for ecvidence. But I also believe it is likely to be true, and the actual data presented here supports the premise. If you are so worked up about it, I would assume you have better evidence for your positon than what you have put up.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostHey, wait just a minute! I think LA is saying he doesn't know. I think it is equally interesting how little evidence has been cited for something that seems to be obvious to everyone. This whole attendance thing that some are using to distract themselves from the fact of still being the MWC is apparently much more of a sacred cow than I, at least, realized. I always thought that was just rivalry smack, but apparently there is some pride and identity tied up in it.Originally posted by creekster View PostIgnroe it if you will, but the UCLA data IS data. LA, admitting BYU outdraws Utah won't get you kicked out the party you know. I'm also trying to figure out why you're posting in our thread so much. I'm pretty sure this thread doesn't belong to you. This is the classic "what are you doing on our board" line from CB. Yet strangely enough, LA, who I thought was already in a BCS conference, keeps raising the issue. I only jumped in now because it's eerily quiet at work this morning and this is about the fourth time I've seen him make this point in the last few days and DH (who apparently has dropped it in an attempt to distract himself from still being in the MWC) refuted it pretty solidly (or at least as solidly as one can).Originally posted by UtahDan View PostI think LA is saying he doesn't know. Dan, you're becoming what 2 months ago you despised.

Has it occurred to you that perhaps the reason there is so little evidence is precisely becasue we really dont care that much? IOW, I am not going to bother looking for it. ANd we are hardly using it to 'distract' oursleves from still being in the MWC. OTOH, ther may be some identity tied upo into the notion, which for a ute fan would be impossible to understand, I suppose.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

My retort regarding UCLA was that you state BYU had 15K fans at the Rose Bowl to watch BYU and UCLA in 199-something.Originally posted by creekster View PostIgnroe it if you will, but the UCLA data IS data. I said Utah had the same number in 2006.
Utah had 15K at that game. Whether or not as many UCLA fans showed up is up to argument. The attendance numbers say fewer people showed up.
But THAT wasn't the point you tried to make, I don' think.
It was that BYU fans travel better. I'm saying that Utah fans travel every bit as well.
My point was never that BYU was a better draw. That is a point that has no real data to determine accuracy.
Utah fans have travelled VERY well to UCLA, OrSU, Oregon, Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Michigan. The Utah presence at Notre Dame will also be very impressive if ticket sales and requests for that game are any indicator.
Utah has nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to traveling to away games against good opponents in nice locations.
An added benefit is that most Utah fans actually "travel" and buy hotels, eat out, etc. Many of BYU's fans buy tickets and that's about it. They either live in nearby towns or stay with family.
I'd argue that Utah's traveling contingent makes an impact on the local economies that is GREATER than BYU.
I don't really understand this debate anyway. Both schools travel really well considering that heretofore they have both been non-BCS schools. Many BCS schools don't "travel" as well as either one.
