yes but couldnt they be the ones pushing for SMU or Pitt?

"However, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned that BYU officials have had discussions with Big 12 officials within the past week regarding the school’s interest in joining the conference, and what conditions and assurances it would need to make the jump exactly a year after announcing they were breaking away from the Mountain West Conference."
This is a great summary of CUF over the past few days, for anyone interested. Hi Jay! Didn't realize I was a source now!

              • Don't know if this has been posted.

Chip Brown on the Pac-12 expanding....

In trying to track down the very latest in realignment news, I reached out to Pittsburgh athletic director Steve Pederson to gauge Pitt's reaction to being mentioned as a potential candidate to join the Big 12.

Pitt's spokesman E.J. Borghetti told me Pederson was declining comment at this time.

I also reached out to Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott for a comment on his league's potential interest in resuming conversations from last summer with any number of schools in the Big 12 (OU, Ok St, Texas, Texas Tech).

And Scott sent me a comment in the form of a statement:

"Our sole focus has been on developing the tremendous opportunities we have as a new, 12-team Conference and we have no current plans to expand the Pac-12.

"However, I have made clear my vision that the health, stability and future of college athletics will likely include further consolidation and re-alignment. While I can not predict if and when this might make sense for us, we will listen to and evaluate any scenario that would benefit our member institutions, our student-athletes and our fans.

"In the meantime, we are pleased to be in a strong leadership position in academics and college athletics, with both a rich heritage of success and recent moves that have greatly strengthened our Conference and positioned us well for the future."

                Stay tuned.

I just can't imagine that BYU would want to join a B12 that has SMU knocking on the door as well. If you lose A&M and the other 3 mentioned (rumors Mizzou could bounce as well), they would be stepping back into another MWC/WAC situation.

The B12 is a wounded baby hippo, all the while the lions are licking their chops, and the vultures are circling overhead.
How much do WCC members collect from the conference? How much do Big 12 members collect? If you can demonstrate the number members collect from WCC is greater than 1/3 members collect from Big 12, you're invited to stay in this thread.

                      This was hard-hitting:

Dan Jenkins, a Fort Worth-based writer and author of numerous books on sports including the football novel, "Semi-Tough," isn't letting Texas off that easy, saying its arrogance is what drove off Nebraska and Colorado. "They think they run the whole world, certainly they think they run the state, and all of college football."

Jenkins, who attended Texas Christian University, says A&M has been letting Texas push them around for too long and it's good that the Aggies are seeking their fortune with the SEC, which will welcome A&M's loyal fan base that travels well and the recruiting possibilities that come with television access to the country's second largest state. "I just wish OU would go too and teach Texas a lesson."

                      ...

Some people still miss the old Southwest Conference, a mainly Texan football powerhouse that eventually imploded in 1996 in part because of mass cheating.

One thing is pretty clear: very few people will shed a tear if the Big 12 falls apart. "It was a TV deal," said Jenkins.

Clearly this guy is a TCU fan given he couldn't give a rat's ass what happens to Baylor. I am pretty sure that Baylor and its fans would shed a tear if the Big 12 falls apart. Their future would most likely be C-USA. TCU fans would love seeing the Big 12 implode given the history. When people say TCU should join the Big 12 I just laugh. TCU has little or no interest in joining the conference that screwed them.

Some here have suggested that Baylor specifically will just follow Texas to its new home...be that in the PAC, the B10, or Indy. No worries for Baylor.

Are we talking about the same Baylor? You know, the ones that have a 28% winning percentage in football since joining the Big 12. Hell, even Iowa State has a better winning percentage at nearly 40%.
