All I've gotta say is if BYU doesn't make the jump and the schedule remains the same crappy home schedule, I won't be buying season tickets anymore. I'll give them two years, but after that they need to have better teams coming to town on a more consistent basis.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostLandThieves (I have no idea why i'm following this guy):

Exactly. It would be foolish and desperate to agree to ridiculous terms. For example, not getting paid a full share for a few years. That is an example of a stupid thing to do. I admit it is an extreme and unlikely example, but you all get my point.Originally posted by MarkGrace View Post"We're committed to being independent."

Nebraska and Texas basically agreed on revenue sharing - that wasn't the problem.Originally posted by Gaffords View PostAnd now that you set me off! Side with Nebraska on what? Equal revenue sharing that no one could even change before Nebraska squealed anytime a change was brought up?

Same story as every time! big Bully Texas when we can't compete! That is it it is unfair when they take all our money! BECAUSE you insisted on having it this way.
Partial qualifiers were a big part of Nebraska's issues with Texas. Nebraska was willing to take chances on partial qualifiers, educate them, and allow them to earn a degree while playing football. Texas had the opinion that if they can't qualify and play for the Longhorns, we don't want them playing for anyone else. Texas may be the superior academic institution but Nebraska graduates a higher percentage of it's football players and has had more academic All-Americans. Texas just didn't want to make the investment on marginal academic student athletics. How Mr. Wonderlic test score of "6" Vince Young ever spelled "cat" correctly is beyone me. Nebraska wasn't worried about sanctions, they police themselves fairly well. It was the cheatin' SWC schools along with OU that were in jeopardy.Originally posted by Gaffords View PostOr did Nebraska want someone to side with them on 'qualifiers'? Sorry but if your players can't spell 'cat' then they don't need to be playing football on a scholarship. Higher academic standards were needed anyways! the SWC had just gotten slaughtered with sanctions and it was just a matter of time before they nailed 75% of the BIG 12 if we didn't police ourselves first!
Other issues Nebraska had was moving the Big 12 HQ from KC to Dallas, not rotating the Big 12 CCG from North to South, and losing the annual Nebraska-Oklahoma game on Thanksgiving.
Texas used its muscle to get its way; acting in its own best interests. Nebraska does the same and determined it was in its own best interests to join the Big Ten. To have fans of Big 12 North teams whine about being abandoned by the Big Red when they voted against Nebraska at every turn with Missouri even publically lobbying for inclusion to the Big Ten - that's a little too much. If a division wants solidarity from its anchor program, then one doesn't vote against it every time.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Deepthrowt cracks me up... He is trying sooooo hard to convince people that he is part of all the inner workings of the BYU athletic department.

I also love how he acts like he's sitting in on these meetings. His latest tweet cracked me up. "Up for air. Thus far, independence winning." Like he's been sitting with Dodds, Beebe and Holmoe and Samuleson and ran out during a potty break to tweet.Originally posted by Viking View Posti just think it's bizarre that there's a byu insider with the handle "deepthrowt"

The reports of Nebraska's death are greatly exaggerated...and your memory is very short. All great programs go through a down cycle. Nebraska is still recovering but is on an upswing.Originally posted by Gaffords View PostMaybe if the North would have remembered how to play football, they wouldn't have had to tuck tail and run! It took Nebraska too long to figure out they were a has been and would never see glory days again...
Nebraska 2002-2007: 44-32 .579
Texas 1988-93: 35-31-1 .522
Oklahoma 1994-99: 30-38-1 .435
Like where Nebraska has been the past two seasons. So is this anticipated 10+ win season a Texas return to glory or are the Longhorns done with their glory days (as you imply with Nebraska)?Originally posted by Gaffords View PostThis year, we see a 7-5 season because it is a rebuilding completely. Next year, we expect to be back at 10 + win season...“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Cmon...I'm just playing. And this is completely and totally directed at SU--not you, LA, or any of the other Ute posters on the board. Although apparently, HL has become quite the student of my posts and keeps thinking I'm talking to him. I guess he can have a little if he wants.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostYou continually make my job very difficult
Most of us seem to have a pretty realistic grasp on our place in the football universe--we'd be lucky to be in the club. I'll even admit to being a 'jealous little baby' when it comes to PAC 12 football road trips, although if we get into the Big 12, I'll take our basketball schedule hands down.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
