I might need an intervention. I don't post on CB anymore. I cancelled my subscription to TBS. I sold my season tickets for next year. I am not going to the away game at FSU. Now this and I don't feel like making angry comments about the honor code. What's next? Could I possibly change to going by UofU '72.

I admit my character flaw. The transistion from BYU football fan to BYU religion/football fan is not going smoothly.

LOL, I wish though one of the "defenders of the faith" had posted it. I have always thought TopRack was a pretty level headed poster.

I guess my answer would be. Use the same method you used to explain why a ex LDS Bishop legistlator got picked up for DUI or how you explained a Bishop getting picked up for molesting young boys. If you could explain those, Harvey's situation should be easy to explain.

i agree with this 100%, and i think this is probably why he was under some heavy pressure to withdraw (at least from the team). it was ultimately his decision to withdraw (from school), no one else's.

So, taking this on the field, how many wins does this cost you this year? Harvey was such a punishing back that he might be the hardest to replace of all the players that are gone. Like others, I'm glad we don't have to face him because he was arguably one of the most physically dominating players in the rivalry.

Unfortunately for him, someone will have to lose a 2011 pick to take him this summer in the supplemental draft. The Redskins spent a 3rd rounder on Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon who was not allowed to return to school due to legal issues. I would say at best he draws a 5th rounder, but even there I think he'll be a great value pick for whoever gets him.

True. The HC bottom line is about control. It isn't a bad idea President Wilkinson came up with. Being conservative by nature or choice, I would like to see college campus's coming under a lot more control. If I didn't care about disgarding good people and especially good athletes, I would be in
favor of strict rules at all colleges and if you break them, you get kicked out.

A very public figure getting kicked out would always serve to be a great reminder to the general populace of what could happen.

In fairness to Ernie, I am pretty sure students developed and pushed for the honor code.

Here's an idea. Let BYU be in charge of giving kids a college education and let bishops be in charge of ecclesiastical guidance in their lives.

This is the most concise and intelligent summation of my feelings on this. This is total BS. I don't care if this was his 10th offense--that's his bishop's business, not his college president's. You don't mess up 2 college educations for the sake of your public image. Not that it does anything for your public image, as I think most people around the country will look at this and think, "you kicked a 22 yr old football player out of school for what??"

If I personally knew a D1 caliber athlete, I'd have a hard time recommending BYU.

As a church and culture generally we could do a much better job with situations like this.
