The good thing, I am sure in your ward it will be, the couple will be surrounded by love and best wishes. No one will be saying, the ward will be fine because young Elder so and so will be a great replacement for the Elder who slipped. I doubt anyone will make a public announcement of the transgression from the potium either.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostAbsolutely agree. Unfortunately I'm fairly certain I may be dealing with that very scenario in the not too distant future.
I know, I know. These are athletes and they get a lot of positive attention, therefor public scrutiny is justified.

Actually AA, it is a very old idea. I have suggested it for years. I do realize I am a lowly member of the church though and my opinions don't, nor should they, carry much weight.Originally posted by All-American View PostAnd how noble of us to come up with this idea the day our star running back breaks the rules.

I didn't read the article but does he have to leave school? She'll be an honest woman by Sunday, why can't he finish his schooling? I wasn't there THAT long ago and there were a lot of folks who had similar things to confess who weren't asked to leave.

Since I'm probably more of a "say 20 Hail Marys"Originally posted by Colly Wolly View PostHere's an idea. Let BYU be in charge of giving kids a college education and let bishops be in charge of ecclesiastical guidance in their lives.
than a public or private flogging bishop, I would
be in favor of that. Strangely I've never been asked for my opinion on the matter by BYU; maybe if I picked up when they called for donations I would have a chance.Last edited by Art Vandelay; 04-16-2010, 08:44 PM.

Yeah, I know. I don't mean anything personal by it. I'm just supposing that if and when anybody takes that idea seriously (and it's one I've espoused myself, by the way), it's not going to be so people can play football.Originally posted by Colly Wolly View PostThis not new rhetoric from me.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

Help me out here. I don't know how it's "Christian" to kick the Unga family out of BYU.
Seriously, if Whit is savvy he'll tell recruits, "Look, this could happen to anyone. Do you want to give a school the power to alter the course of your life because you made a mistake like Uga did?"
Of course he needs to figure out how to say that and not freak out the moms of these kids directed mostly by testoterone. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

See my response above. If it's a good idea (and I think it very well might be), it won't gain any traction because of how it affects the sports world.Originally posted by byu71 View PostActually AA, it is a very old idea. This is something with which I agree. Why is it necessary for either of them to get booted from school?Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostPersonally, I am not even talking about football. Kick him off the team if that is the punishment. I just don't like the dismissal from school.
How does the school handle a situation like this if it had been two students who didn't play sports? If they're not on a team from which to be dismissed, do they get booted as well? If so, is this why Unga and the girl are being booted?"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

I agree. I think it would get consideration if important people in the chruch have their childrens mistakes at BYU made public and discussed. Maybe not.Originally posted by All-American View PostYeah, I know. I don't mean anything personal by it. Is 15 days to late for an april fools joke?!?!? Someone please say yes.
I would, over and over again. But I do respect your opinion.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostI would not trade a BCS bowl or Final Four to let athletes have a different set of rules then the general student body.
