2022 Best Universities in the World - US News
Here's the stated criteria for the national rankings I listed earlier:

Schools in the National Universities category, such as the University of Chicago and Carnegie Mellon University, offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research.
The global rankings use a much different criteria:

These institutions from the U.S. and more than 90 other countries have been ranked based on 13 indicators that measure their academic research performance and their global and regional reputations.
It seems that the global rankings lean heavily to medical schools. In fact, Baylor College of Medicine - at 135 and separate from Baylor University - is ranked higher than the entire University of Utah (151).

University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center--Dallas is at #124. Lol, they should field a football team.

It's interesting to me how the number of respondents dropped by over 50% last year. It's also interesting how the rankings are based on self-reporting.

Abuse of these methods abounds, and people doubt their veracity:

A Columbia professor recently exposed how his university was gaming the system. So Columbia got dropped.

So tip of the iceberg or outlier? I suspect it's somewhere in between.

                • Baylor college of medicine is not affiliated with Baylor university . Balor college of medicine disaffiliated a long time ago because Baylor University is a Christian school.

Maybe the PAC-12(-2) is looking at this all wrong. Just have Caltech (#9) and UC-San Francisco (#11) field football teams and they are back to 12 teams.

So dumb. Jesus is pretty much the best doctor in the history of the world. Crazy they would distance themselves from that.

                          Jesus's healing lacks broad appeal.

                          • That's a lie.

"In 1969, by mutual agreement, the College separated from Baylor University to become an independent institution. This encouraged broader, nonsectarian support and provided access to federal research funding. The institution's name changed to Baylor College of Medicine."

Thanks for clarifying that point (which was explicitly included in my original post).
