So USU may just fall into a better situation than their fan base deserves.
Agreed. I question how much fan support they have. I watched the uofutah game and there was a ton of pukey red in that stadium, and even a number of empty seats. How can that happen for an instate game against a ranked opponent which has treated you like crap for that past 3o years?

I think USU is a no-brainer for market size reasons as well as a good place to recruit. And they have been competitive in football, basketball, and even some olympic sports.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

    • I seem to remember the 10 remaining schools in the PAC-12 issuing some sort of statement of unity in February 2023 as they struggled to make a media deal. That didn't mean much as 8 of those 10 schools quickly bolted to the Big 12 and ACC.

Based on past history, statements of unity aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Schools will follow the money (and I don't blame them). If those AAC schools decide they would rather stay in the AAC, I conclude that the money in the new PAC-12 isn't as attractive as they would hope.

      • Different circumstances in this situation, but you could be right. That said, the chatter around USU picked up significantly over the weekend, so that timing seems to match the statement from those four schools that the PAC was targeting.

        • Yep, looks like it's a money thing. They already get somewhere between 9-12 million dollars a year. Why make a change that will cost them much more in travel, and also hurt their chances to get into the CFP?

          • Utah State has an offer and is expected to accept. This is hilariously amazing. Good for the baggies, honestly

            • Uh oh. PAC plans starting to fall apart. I wonder if UNLV is tied to Nevada Reno.

Haven't seen that. Cool if true.

                  • Both the P12 and MWC have 7 teams. 1 short of being considered a real conference. LOL.

                        • They’ll fit in well culturally with OSU and WSU, being agricultural schools.

                          • So they’ve managed to make two fairly equal conferences of 7 teams who will likely end up getting somewhere near the same money each (maybe I’m wrong about that I just don’t see a huge difference). Tell me why they aren’t simply merging?

                              Hopefully (for CFB) they do.
