USC new Coach: Who will it be??

Another guy who should be pissed is Tommy Tuberville. He could have gone to Knoxville for a significantly better job than the one at Texas Tech.

It's also being reported that Ed Orgeron was raiding Tennessee's recruiting class the second he and Kiffin decided to take off to USC. One or two of the players put the calls on speakphone for other players to listen to.

I'm not sure who Tennessee can hire at this point but they're going to have to scramble. Since Chris Petersen didn't want to go to USC, don't bother with him. I would go HARD at Gary Patterson, Whit and/or Mendenhall at this point.

Rumors have Muschamp as their number 1. Patterson also in the mix.

Muschamp would be a nice hire for Tennessee. Mack Brown just got a raise and he doesn't appear as if he's slowing down. I just don't think Muschamp will sit around and wait for Brown to leave, that could be another ten years. Brown's only 58 years old.

Muschamp's alma mater is Georgia, and I don't think that job is opening up any time soon. Les Miles probably isn't going anywhere so LSU isn't opening up. Florida and Bama are obviously settled with Meyer and Saban. Traditionally, Tennessee is probably tied with Georgia and LSU as the 3rd best job in the SEC but it's probably the 5th best job right now.

What a day to be offline. I was in meetings for a chunk of yesterday, my phone exploding with texts from people and me trying to juggle the meeting and also trying to find out what is happening with rumors flying everywhere.

My quick thoughts:

1. Kiff as a HC......not overly excited, not overly upset. He does not have the star power that Pete has, but it took Pete a couple of seasons to establish himself, as well. Kiff has proven over the past several years to be arrogant and annoying as a HC, but I was telling donute that I think he will have to mend his ways slightly. The LA media will tear him to shreds if he tries to drop attitude without winning. He will also be constantly reminded that he is NOT Pete, both by the media and the fans.

2. I think the Trojan family is happy that they are bringing in one of their own, someone that can replicate much of Pete's daily motions. Whether he can bring the same energy and enthusiasm is yet to be seen.

3. Kiff's staff is A-number one, king of the hill, top of the list, a-number one. Monte and Ed are fan-freaking-tastic gets and if all goes as planned, they land No-Cho today by offering him "NFL type money." FUCLA pays him just south of 7 bills....SC should simply offer him 1-1.2M and quickly call it a day. With the addition of No-Cho, you have possibly one of the best overall coaching/recruiting staffs in the country. Normy is in Florida right now at a coaches conference but has already indicated that he is open to the idea "under the right circumstances." The ball is in SC's court. It all comes down to how many zeroes get thrown onto the blank check. If the number is big enough, Norm is ours for the taking. (Bonus: SCrew FUCLA in the process! hooray!)

4. Sipi can probably speak more to this, but the word amongst the team is allegedly and surprisingly upbeat. I think many see this as a chance for a fresh start while others, particularly on offense, are giddy at the thought of No-Cho coming back. Also, from what I read, this has actually brought the team together something fierce, esp with Seniors stepping up and rallying the troops. Kiff can really play off that and create a strong sense of unity, urgency, etc.

5. Given the recruiting talents of Kiff Jr and Sr, plus Ed O, I look to another hopefully stellar signing class. Word is that Prater, Baxter, and Grimble are back in, and Woods re-confirmed his commit. No word yet on Seantrel, but I remain hopeful there. The big question is whether Powell has a change of heart and comes back to his SC lean (as a side note, Urban is really flying under the radar because technically his situation is also still up in the air).

6. Kiff's presser today at 4PST. Interested to see what he says. Personally, I am not a strong Xs and Os fan (I leave that to guys like hot lunch, junkie, seattleute, etc...) so I am not in a good position to critique Kiff's X and O acumen. He is young. He is brash. That might play well in LA, depending on how the team does. Kiff is also hot and has a fairly hot wife, which always plays well in LA. Also, he was able to learn from Caesar's feet about how to use the Hollywood angle to his advantage....open practices, celeb appearances, media all over the place, etc.

Kiff has been handed some serious keys. All things considered, I think SC did well (you have to like that they stuck it to the SEC a bit in the process). KW, Petersen, etc....they would have been unable to match the overall coaching staff that Kiff brings to the table. I will always bark for Sark, but again, Sark would not have brought Ed O and Monte with him, so tie breaker goes to Kiff.

At 4PM, Kiff will announce the beginning of a new era and will throw up his two fingers for the first time as head coach of the USC Trojans. And he will have the support of the Trojan fanbase.

Does Chow really want to be a HC? After all the gigs he has had, and not one of them as a HC, I am starting to think that he doesn't want it. OC is a great gig, esp if you are at the right program. It is hard to imagine so many different programs conspiring against Norm to deny him a shot at HC.

Kiffin seems like a callow asshole. ALL style and no substance. I think USC has just hired its Steve Lavin.

I think he ruins it in the interview because he is such a polarizing guy.. He doesn't take crap from people and interviewing for HC's, I tend to think he does not kiss any ass.. Therefore he loses out..

He might be just happy being the highest paid OC in college football..

Lavin took the bRuins to 5 Sweet 16s in 6 seasons. He has over 10 straight tourney appearances, is the only coach to beat the #1 team in the country 4 straight seasons, and he had a slew of 20+ consecutive win seasons.

And, as of this morning [Wednesday], we have not received any contact from USC regarding any offers for coach Chow to leave UCLA," Yee told ESPN, adding that no media contacted him about the initial circulation of Chow reports.

Chow had not been directly contacted by USC, either, Yee said. If the Trojans do pursue his client in the immediate future, Yee did not reject the possibility of a deal.

"As his representative, I'd have an obligation to present any proposal to coach Chow but I have nothing to present to him," Yee told ESPN.
