Given Kiffin's recruiting violations and faux pas' at Tennessee, you are right; USC won't miss a beat. Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

I guess this would be a confirm
LOS ANGELES -- Tennessee's Lane Kiffin is the surprise choice of Southern California to replace Pete Carroll as football coach. The hiring was announced by the school Tuesday night, hours after Carroll was introduced as coach of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.
Kiffin, 34, is a disciple of Carroll, serving on his staff from 2001-06. In his last two seasons at USC, he was the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.
Kiffin left USC in 2007 to coach the Oakland Raiders, becoming the youngest coach in the NFL's modern era. He was fired, though, after four games of his second season.
He then was hired by Tennessee, where he coached the Vols to a 7-6 record last season.
"Lane brings a lot to the table," USC athletics director Mike Garrett said in a statement. "He has a coaching background both in the pros and in the best collegiate conferences. He has a great command of the X's and O's.
"He is familiar with the Trojan landscape and will be a great representative of our university. He keeps the game fun. And, very importantly, he has proven to be one of the finest recruiters anywhere."
The move comes as a surprise because he had been with Tennessee for only the one season, and because Tennessee has been found to have committed at least six secondary NCAA rules violations in his one-year tenure.
The Trojans' program, meanwhile, has been under NCAA investigation since 2006, when allegations were reported that 2005 Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and his family received improper benefits from a would-be marketing representative.
Kiffin will bring with him his father, longtime NFL defensive coach Monte Kiffin, and veteran assistant Ed Orgeron, a former USC defensive line coach. Both were on the Tennessee staff last season. USC has set an introductory news conference for Wednesday.

ESPN is reporting that USC is also working on a deal to bring Chow back. That would be one heck of a coaching staff if that happens.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

Lane might not be the best long term planner.

Maybe it was after Fort Knox, as in back the truck up. How much is USC paying him?

His buyout at Tennessee was $800k. So basically nothing.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI don't know, but how much did USC have to give Tennessee?"I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Believe it or not, Lane Kiffin never really embraced Tennessee
"Coach Kiffin cared about Tennessee traditions less than the worst Vol hater in the state of Alabama," (former Vols lineman Josh McNeil) said. "That man's a snake.""I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Seriously. And if Chow joins, that's one impressive coaching staff. Wow.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostThere are unconfirmed reports that Kiffin is bringing Monte Kiffin and Ed Orgeron with him from Tennessee.
He assembled a fantastic coaching staff in Knoxville. If he assembles a similarly-impressive cast, USC won't miss a beat."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Another guy who should be pissed is Tommy Tuberville. He could have gone to Knoxville for a significantly better job than the one at Texas Tech.
It's also being reported that Ed Orgeron was raiding Tennessee's recruiting class the second he and Kiffin decided to take off to USC. One or two of the players put the calls on speakphone for other players to listen to.
I'm not sure who Tennessee can hire at this point but they're going to have to scramble. Since Chris Petersen didn't want to go to USC, don't bother with him. I would go HARD at Gary Patterson, Whit and/or Mendenhall at this point.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
