Not that I am bitter or anything ( ) but just how great was that pass? Harline had no one near him and was standing there in the end zone. I know Beck threw the ball cross-body while he was rolling right, but I don't really see that pass as anything to shout about otherwise. Don't get me wrong, it was a great play, but it's not like he threaded the needle with a perfectly-timed rifle shot of a pass.

The same is true of Max's pass to George the other night. The play worked perfectly, but after watching my own DVR recording of it a few times it looked to me like both Sylvester and the DB (I forgot his name) tried to make a play in front of George, when one of them should have been between him and the goal line. They both end up on the ground, and he trots 10 yards into the end zone.

I really am not denigrating the plays, just trying to describe them accurately. The BYU players outplayed the Ute players both times, but I don't see them as brilliant clutch passes.

The 4th and 18 pass, well now, that was brilliant.

Don't forget that he was clobbered right as or right after he threw the ball.

Well, except for the part where it was 10 yards underthrown and the only reason it was completed is that Brice McCain had the brainfart of all brainfarts.

I don't remember. I've been repressing the memory for a couple of years now.

Only you could find fault with 4th and 18. I'll bet you don't even recognize 1984.

I am so glad you pointed this out. Finally, an honest fan, I mean man. It was so embarrassing, I can't believe BYU didnt just concede the game.
                      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I am glad to see I'm back in creekster's head. No one else on the board can evoke such sarcastic responses from creek with such consistency.

IN my head? only as long as it takes me to pound out a few typos in response to your posts. As for being the target of my sarcasm, is it possible that you just dont get my posts most of the time?

With all due respect, I think that is pure nonsense. Here is the play:

Hall is allowed to scramble and simply had too much time. When you give a QB with Hall's arm and a receiver with Collie's NFL speed a little extra time, things like this happen. No DB can stay on even a slow receiver, much less an Austin Collie, for that long. BYU did what it needed to do to win. A Ute sack, a Ute hurry, or a Ute batted down pass, and the game is Utah's. Alas, it was not to be.

Now I have filled my quota for kudos to BYU and general objectivity about a horribly painful loss for at least the next two years. I actually posted video of the 4th and 18 play!!! And I won't say anything about the "magic happens" statements. Don't expect any more from me!

I still maintain that allowing Austin Collie, only the most talented player on the field at the time and the biggest threat to complete a 4th and 18 play, behind you, no matter how long Hall is running around back there is a massive, massive mistake.

Even if McCain had only let Collie get behind him by five yards instead of 15, he could have caught up to Collie and made a play on the ball.

I am fine with agreeing to disagree, however.

                                Yes.

Hall launched a 50 yard pass down the side line off one foot while running to his right. The pass was right on. Collie slowed down a bit, but can you really find complain about that? This wasn't a specific route he was running, he just made space for himself and Hall found him.

Its alarming, from a fan persective, that you automatically assume that it was a poor play by the other team, and not a great play by YOUR team.
