Why Wynn now?

Hey utefans, I'd trade places with Utah at this point in a second. I'm not saying your team is in disarray, I'm not saying Whit's a bad coach. I'm saying that he made a mistake by either waiting this long to put Wynne in and burn his redshirt, or burning his redshirt simply to beat Wyoming at home. One of the two--I'll leave you guys to decide which. But there's no way to twist it into some genius coaching maneuver that he had in mind all along. If he's planning on starting Wynne the rest of the season, I'm sure Whit wishes he'd have done that from the beginning. He missed something in his assessment of his QB's. They may still split TCU/BYU, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostThis decision is a Rorschach test.
BYU fans can look at it and say "the yewt coaches are desperate! their team is in disarray!"
Ute fans can look at it and say "we were right, Jordan Wynn is just like Alex Smith! The offense looked just like it did at the end of 2008 with him in there!"
The truth is this team's always been predicated on defense and the ground game. Except for the 2nd half of the Colorado St game, we haven't really needed much from the QB spot. And except for the 2nd half of the Colorado St game, we haven't really gotten much from the QB spot.
As long as Wynn takes care of the ball, Utah will split TCU and BYU, win their bowl game, finish the season ranked, and go into next year with a guy who could be our starter for three years. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Cain or Wynn, Utah will lose to TCU. The arrogance of the Ute fanbase is seeping into the heads of some of its most reasonable posters. BYU/Utah is a 50-50 game. Strong Defense vs. Strong Offense, Crappy Defense vs. Crappy Offense. I give the edge to Utah because the game is played at LES and the Cougs for some reason are playing better on the road.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostAs long as Wynn takes care of the ball, Utah will split TCU and BYU, win their bowl game, finish the season ranked, and go into next year with a guy who could be our starter for three years.

The TCU win is not a guaranteed loss. Win or lose, we won't easily settle for 10-2 and an invite to the Backwater Bowl vs. Bo Diddly Tech BYU-style. We will not go gently into that good night.Originally posted by Ruby Soho View PostCain or Wynn, Utah will lose to TCU. So you guys are of the elite now? 10-2 season is a damn good season any way you look at it. Many BYU and Utah fans have set their expectations way to high of their teams. Doesn't Utah only have four 10 win seasons over the past 30 years?Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostThe TCU win is not a guaranteed loss. Actually...I could sort of agree with that decision. Set them up better for next year and all.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostExactly SU , Whit is doing the exact opposite of what you are saying. He is giving up on the season knowing that he will get waxed by both TCU and BYU so he figures he might as well start the rebuilding process now as the smoke and mirrors team that Utah is will soon be exposed. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Unintentional? You wish. With you my wit is ever pearls before swine. Your precious BYU and formerly lionized BM the butt of my rapier joke hurts more than you care to admit, Mr. Rational. You said it yourself, you give the (slight) edge to Utah against BYU. So if we're both saying Utah finishes the regular season 10-2, and at this point it's reasonable to assume the Utes will win their bowl game, where's the perceived arrogance?Originally posted by Ruby Soho View PostCain or Wynn, Utah will lose to TCU. LOL, you don't know Whittingham very well do you. He may know it is a tough road to beating TCU, but I will bet money he thinks if he gets his throwing QB ready, he can beat BYU.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostExactly SU , Whit is doing the exact opposite of what you are saying. If he beats BYU this year, he probably thinks he has put another pretty sizeable dent in the BYU mystique.
