If Portland can learn a few things about playoff basketball playing the spurs, it will be all the better for next year.
Portland might have a shot to get past San Antonio if they had Hibbert.

Are we talking about the same Hibbert?

Portland will make its run in the next few windows. (if at all) This current window is only open 63% and is leaking oil.

Who wouldn't they have if they had Hibbert? I have a feeling that contract will be a millstone around Indy's neck sooner than later.

It was actually 2 years ago and before Hibbert had done much to earn it. But I'm surprised you'd say that anyway. Hibbert is still a very good player and he is or will come out of the slump. Or did I miss something? Washington scored 63 points last night and Roy Hibbert is the defensive centerpiece. Robin Lopez makes some nice contributions, but he's not nearly the player Hibbert is. With Hibbert, Portland would stand a chance against the Spurs this year. And against just about anybody else.

I'm not sure it it would have affected their paying Batum so much or not, probably not anybody else. The Pacers matched Hibbert just before Portland had to match the contract on Batum for not quite as much (4 years $45 mil.) But Hibbert is already 2 years into a 4-year contract. I seriously doubt Indy is too worried about the next 2 years. Hibbert may just step it up again against the Heat in the conference finals. Or maybe Indy prefers not to go to the conference finals? Don't understand why they wouldn't want Hibbert. Should they be more worried about Hibbert or George? I say neither. It's not like they are paying Deron Williams.

            • SAS averaged 105.8 ppg this season. Against Dallas in round 1 they averaged 103 ppg. Against Portland they are averaging 111 ppg. Good thing Portland doesn't have a defensive POY candidate like Hibbert dragging them down.

              • It's probably a bad time for me to bring this up, since they just lost their first playoff game, but Miami doesn't look like a very good basketball team. I'd almost go so far as to say I think LeBron probably had better teams in Cleveland. DWade is a shell of his former self and Chris Bosh is just garbage. If Bosh were a SG, he'd be serviceable (15 and 6 on 50% would be pretty good for a starting SG), but due to the Heat's lack of big men, they need Bosh to be a big man and he just can't or isn't tough enough to do the job. The Heat's bench is even worse. Rashard Lewis might be the worst player in the NBA and he's getting meaningful minutes in the playoffs.

If the Heat were in the West, there is no way they make the finals. If they can get past Indiana, maybe, depending on the matchup, LeBron could catch fire and they could win a third title, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Can LeBron opt out this summer?

The Heat will roll through the East easily (get past Indiana, really?) and win the Finals in 6.

Yes, but I don't think he will. At some point the Heat need to find a Deandre Jordan, Tyson Chandler, Hibbert type big man because as it stands the Heat are just too small to overcome Wade being old and injured, and and Bosh being who he is.

The Heat are a pretty poorly constructed team that is able to overcome that because they have a superstar who can and is willing to do whatever it takes to win. But let's have a short reminder on what LeBron played with in Cleveland. His last year there the team started 37 year old Shaq, 34 yo Anthony Parker, 21 yo JJ Hickson, and Mo Williams. That team is awful.

                          • "Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I can't believe that I used to try and convince myself that he was CP3's equal.

                              • I am not sure it matters how well your team is constructed when you have the best player (ever?) on your team. See Bulls 91-98.
