  • Same old sorry-ass Rams. Kellen Clemens is really, really bad. I haven't seen someone's anus pucker up that tight (figuratively of course) since Greg Roman's when the Niners got inside the 10 yard line in the Super Bowl.

What's that? A Schottenheimer coaches the offense? It all makes so much more sense now.

The Seahawks' offensive line looked horrible.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

    • Watching the MNF post-game on espn is hilarious. Suzy Kobler can't get a word in with Young, Dilfer, and Lewis. She doesn't seem too happy about it either.

Seattle is on the clock trying to trade for Jared Allen. Apparently Minnesota wants a 2014 2nd, but may consider a conditional 2014 3rd.

There is another team that Minnesota is in discussions with. Are there any teams with multiple 2nd round picks in 2014 (one maybe thanks to a trade for a former Ute QB) who are also experiencing a lack of depth along the DL, especially one who would love to screw the Seahawks? The question becomes, what type of impact would adding Jared Allen have on a defense?

        Justin Smith
        Jared Allen
        Patrick Willis
        Navarro Bowman
        Aldon Smith

That would make a pretty good front 7 really scary. It's not a typical move, but does adding a player of Allen's caliber push you over the top?

Sounds like the Chiefs are close to acquiring Tony G from Atlanta.

Denver should be offering a 2nd, pronto.

They were the other team that has been rumored to have interest.

              • Yeah, Denver wasted second round picks on Montee Ball and Brock Osweiler, so I don't see any reason to not give up on up to get a guy like Allen if you want a Super Bowl push.

Jared Allen's contract is pretty expensive. Additionally, I'm not sure how he fits into a 3-4 scheme unless they want to convert to a 4-3 midseason -- but they do have the personnel to pull it off because they could just stick Justin Smith and Tank Carradine on the other side. Glenn Dorsey and Jerod-Eddie would be the defensive tackles. But then you'd be wasting Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks and Corey Lemonier. In other words, there's no way in hell the 49ers should or would trade for Jared Allen.

What is Seattle doing here? Their pass rush is fine. The most recent reports are that Seattle is not involved. They need to go look for an offensive tackle.

Denver is the team that should try for Allen (should have, isn't the deadline passed?).

There are multiple ways that you can play the 3-4 defense. The way that SF plays the 3-4 it is really a hybrid between a 3-4 and a 4-3. Essentially you have a true nose tackle in the middle, and he is flanked by a traditional DE, and a hybrid DT/DE. In SF's scheme, Justin Smith is the hybrid DT/DE, and whomever is lined up on the opposite side is less of a space eater and more of what you would expect from a DE. In other words, you don't waste those other players talents.

I highly doubt that a trade happens, but it's mostly because of the contract issues. I do think that you could plug Allen in without changing your scheme at all.

It looks like the NFL is examining playing 8 games in London a season. They're not going to put a team in London, just have a bunch of different teams play a game there every year. No team will have more than one game in London in any given season.

I mentioned this before, but I think the Germans would support the NFL on the same level as the Brits. I was in Frankfurt when the NFL Europe team was there and they were selling out games. I believe Germany's version of Wembley stadium is in Munich, but I could be wrong. You don't have nearly as many American ex pats there, but you still have some military personal there.

                        • I need to pick the Thursday game.

                          Dolphins over Bengals (-3).

EDIT, I'm changing my pick, Bengals (-3) over Dolphins

                          • Earlier today Steve Young was analyzing why the Bengals have been doing so well over the last 4 weeks, particularly
highlighting the play of AndyDalton w/ 11 TDs and only 1 pick.

                            Not so fast my friend.

Tonight Dalton throws 3 INTs including a pick-6 and then gets sacked for a safety in OT for the dolphin win 22-20.
