I'm not sure who I like out of the AFC next year. The Ravens won't have Ray Lewis, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I would say that they may repeat what the Giants did during the 2012 regular season, but I think John Harbaugh has proven to be more consistent than Tom Coughlin. But, yeah, the Ravens looked pretty damned strong down the stretch albeit with an enormous assist from Rahim Moore. It's incredible that the Super Bowl title turned on one single knuckle-headed play.

As for the Broncos, the way Peyton Manning played in that playoff game would be concerning to me if I were a Broncos fan. Also, I'm not sure I like John Fox as the coach.

If the Ravens get healthy in the secondary and keep most of their other players, they'll be pretty good again next year.

As for the NFC, I like Seattle as long as Chris Clemons comes back. Their secondary is outstanding and I would have really loved to have had Richard Sherman on my team yesterday.

San Francisco's defense looked really, really shaky after that New England game this year. They have an outstanding linebacking corps and when they coupled that with Justin Smith, their defense was very good. But Justin Smith is going to be 34 years old and he's going to start breaking down every year like he did this year. Their priority has to be finding a replacement for him. BTW, I've mentioned this before but JJ freaking Watt was available when they picked Aldon Smith in 2011. JJ Watt had about the greatest year I've ever seen out of a defensive player. Although Aldon Smith has been very good at times, picking Aldon Smith instead of JJ Watt will be the difference between maybe winning one Super Bowl with this team and winning three over the stretch of 6-8 years. Until they find a replacement/depth at d-line and find someone that can play the 3rd CB (Culliver got abused yesterday), I think Seattle is the better team next year. I think the offense will be better but the defense will probably play like they did to end the year unless they make some changes.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I don't think the Ravens have a chance in hell of repeating. The Steelers will be back. Cincy is still good. They barely squeaked in this year. They got by on emotion and some very stupid defensive mistakes by the Denver Broncos and 49ers. Their MVP is Rahim Moore.

The 9ers should just suck it up and move a bunch of their picks to get in to the top 10 and get an elite D tackle prospect. It would be worth it, they don't have a ton of room on their squad for a bunch of younger guys. Their D really struggled in the last third of the year. They missed a bunch of tackles yesterday and I rarely saw that happen during the year.

I was surprised at how well Denver did this year. I was hoping they'd make a serious run, but with all the changes they had, I didn't think they'd win as many games as they did. I think they could easily have a worse record next year, but still be a better team, much like the 9ers were this year. Brady and the Pats will always be there lurking. Houston is getting to be a more veteran and playoff experienced team, but I keep feeling like their QB is just Jake Plummer reincarnated.

I still think the 9ers have the best overall team in the NFC. I think Washington takes a step back with RG3 being hurt. The Packers will overhaul their defense to try and get more competitive. The Bears and Lions are pretenders. Still not sold on the Falcons, and the Saints will be better next year with their coach back.

A dark horse playoff team next year could be the Rams. I really like their coach and have always thought he did a great job.

I just wish the Falcons had a different coach or QB going into next season. I realize that you cannot get rid of either right now, but this past year was the ceiling with Matt Ryan and Mike Smith and it is going to be all downhill from there. They are going to take a step back next year without Gonzalez and our crappy defense.

Seattle is looking like the team to beat, but I would be concerned that they couldn't beat the Falcons in a playoff game.

The thing about the Ravens is they all got healthy at the start of the postseason. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they started out 9-2. They then hit a rough patch with some injuries and came back strong for the playoffs. John Harbaugh has made the playoffs every single year and won a playoff game every single year. Flacco is in his prime now and he looked really effing good in the postseason.

I don't think the Steelers are coming back any time soon. Their o-line is a mess and they have an old defense. Roethlisberger gets hurt every single year and they drop a few games as a result.

Cincy has a crappy coach and their offensive coaching staff aren't worth much. I think the team in the right hands would be very good, but their owner doesn't give a shit about winning a Super Bowl and doesn't want to shell out the money for an elite coach.

The irony between with the 9ers is everyone was talking about how great their defense was at the end of last year while there were huge questions about the QB situation. Now, they probably have the best o-line in football, Kaepernick is regarded as a legit franchise QB and they have top ten WRs and TEs in Davis and Crabtree. Frank Gore is one of my all-time favorites and I really wish they would have given him the ball after he got them to the 7, but he was drafted in 2005 and this will be his 9th season. I desperately hope he hasn't already worn down. While the linebackers are outstanding, they have more problems than just getting an elite lineman to replace Justin Smith. Their secondary played poorly yesterday and in the Atlanta game.

Instead of dicking around with AJ Jenkins as their first round pick (one target the entire year-- and he dropped it), they should have picked Janoris Jenkins which is something I wanted them to do if a solid d-lineman prospect didn't drop to them. Instead St. Louis picked him and he almost got rookie of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped Carlos Rodgers to clear some salary and made a play for Darell Revis.

Re: John Fox, Denver would've been awesome had we hired Fox (or a similar-minded coach) to replace Shanahan. He would've kept the great offensive talent we had, and given us the defensive overhaul we needed.

I still think Fox is a good (not great) HC. He's too conservative for my taste, and the mental breakdowns against Baltimore were frustrating. But on the whole, we were well-coached, and with upgrades in the secondary we'll continue to be a favorite in the AFC in 2013. I'd love to see a guy like Tom Moore get the OC position.

They already hired the QB coach to be the OC in Denver. He's a no namer. I haven't ever heard of him.

Fox was a puss. He sat on it in regulation with 33 seconds left. He should have tried to get us in FG range. His conservative approach was one reason we lost that game.

Packers released Woodson. I'm not sure how I feel about that. It makes for a young secondary next year.

They did need the cap space, but I wish they could have kept him. I wonder if the DD thing affected their thinking.

The Ravens have said they will not pursue Paul Kruger in free agency. Instead they have made outside linebacker Darnell Ellerbe their top target. Ellerbe had 92 tackles and 4.5 sacks last season, he is not the pass rusher Kruger is but he is a better all around LB. This has me wondering if the Ravens know something that the rest of the NFL doesn't about Kruger or do they feel like Kruger will be such a hot commodity his price tag will be much to high.

Dolphins gave Brian Hartline 5 years 31 million with 12 of it guaranteed. Uggghhhhhhhhhhh. This is 1 year after giving Davone Bess a 4 year 11 million dollar deal. You now have Hartline and Bess the two worst starting receivers in the NFL locked up for 42 million over the next 5 years.

They better still have money left to make a run at Mike Wallace.

Hartline is a scrub. He had four catches or less in more than half of the games last year. He also scored a whopping 1 TD on the year. What a bad deal that is for a guy with that production. Does your production really matter that much if you have 40% of it in three games?

                    3 games: 29 catches, 471 yards, 1TD

The other 13 games: 45 catches, 612 yards

Niners fire back and acquire Anquan Boldin for a 6th round pick. Great deal for SF.

I don't know why he wouldn't. He gets paid. The Niners gave up a sixth. That's a steal. Boldin shows up in the playoffs.
